Let me get this bit about me out into the open: I love calculators. I’m obsessed with them, especially scientific calculators. I blame my fixation on these calculators on Chemical Engineering, the course I took up in college. Time is of the essence, and the better the calculator, the more time I would be able to save, during seat works and during exams.
I was probably one out of the three students in my class who would carry two different models of scientific calculators at all times. You know, for emergencies.
Anyway, Kokuyo’s X-ViZ calculator isn’t really a scientific one but nonetheless, it’s a calculator that I definitely want to add to my collection. (My current count is at 11. I know, too many, right? I probably have more calculators than I’ll ever need or use in my lifetime which is why I’m thinking of passing them on to other people who need them…)
These sleek and ultra slim calculators just tickle my fancy. The unique thing about them is that they were meant to be used with one hand only. You know, like when you switch channels on your TV remote or compose an SMS message on your mobile phone.
The Kokuyo X-ViZ calculator was the brainchild of robot designer Tatsuya Matsui. It will be made available in Japan on May 11 for appx. $64 (USD). To order one for yourself, you should check out Japan-based shopping service Rinkya or Flutterscape.
