When you start watching this video, you’re going to say to yourself, why am I watching a clip of the Jim Henson Google Doodle puppets speaking in Portuguese? And then you’ll turn on the closed captioning and realize that they’re actually talking about video games, and it’ll start to make just slightly more sense in the context of what is to follow.

At the recently concluded Innovation Japan 2011, a group of researchers from the robot–obsessed, ever–innovative Osaka University in Japan presented the Omni-Ball, a ball-shaped wheel that can move in all directions.  They then used the Omni-Ball to create the Omni-Crawler, a small vehicle that – yep, you catch on quick – easily move in all directions.

So you’re in your car, ready to head off to work, when you realize you can’t get the garage door open because you left the remote in the kitchen table. Or you could have just gotten home – only to have to park your vehicle outside while you rummage around your glove compartment trying to find where you stuffed the garage door remote earlier.

I love simple designs that still manage to greatly improve upon an already existing device. That’s exactly what we have here with this watch from designers Gennady Martynov and Emre Centinkprulu.

There have been plenty of cheap little devices you can use to record an audio message and leave it on your fridge or by your door, but I rather like the idea behind Native Union’s Play, a gadget which also lets you leave video messages for your family or roomies.
