iPhone 4 Case Adds Glasses-Free 3D

 |  |  |  |  November 2, 2011

This may just look like your average cheap plastic iPhone 4 case, but under its Good and Plenty pink and black color scheme, this inexpensive add-on actually turns your iPhone 4 into a glasses-free 3D display.

Presumably, there’s some sort of lenticular lens sheet built into the case, which angles half of the image to your left eye and the other half to your right. Then, you’ll need to load up special 3D files which have been split into alternating bands in order to view content in 3D. According to the product descriptiom, it does ship with a set of example 3D files for you to play with, and I imagine there’s information on how to create or source additional 3D files.

Now I’m not going to say that you’ll be watching Avatar in full glasses-free 3D on your iPhone anytime soon, but it is possible that you could hack that together somehow. Given the fact that this case is only $23 (USD) over at DealExtreme, it might be worth a shot if you’re into 3D content. I only wish the damned thing came in other colors besides pink and black.

If any of you guys decides to pick one up, post a comment below and let us know how well it works.
