Take a close look at the photo below. At first, it just looks like a couple of pieces of equipment you’d find in a hospital operating room – but look closer. Closer still. Yep, the one on the left – made entirely out of LEGO bricks.
This intricate recreation of an anesthesia machine was created by puzzle designer/LEGO artist Eric Harshbarger, and it’s truly impressive. Eric was commissioned last summer by GE Healthcare to build a 1:1 scale model of their equipment for a trade show, and after a bit of back and forth, Eric obliged.
Overall, it took Eric over 30,000 LEGO bricks to complete the model, which replicates every detail of the original machine, even those vital sign monitors.
Ok, since I’m no medical expert, I can’t be sure it’s completely accurate – I have no idea what all those contraptions do – but it sure looks close to me. In all honesty, the only time I saw one of these up close, the doctors had me doped up on Versed.
You can check out more details of the LEGO anesthesia machine over at Eric’s website, where you can also find numerous other awesome LEGO creations he’s built over the years.
