USB Gas Stove: Cooking with Laptop Power

 |  |  |  |  |  April 1, 2012

While it’s not the iPhone gas stove I’ve been dreaming about for my kitchen, I still rather like the idea of this USB mug warmer that looks just like a tiny stovetop burner.

Simply plug the USB mini gas stove into the side of your computer, and it’ll heat up a mug of tea, coffee, or even keep your ramen noodles warm. It even has a bright orange LED ring around the middle to make it look like a burner (although I’d think blue would be more realistic for natural gas).

It offers an adjustable thermostat which lets you select from temperatures between 40° and 70° celsius, and also functions as a 2-port USB hub. I’m a bit concerned about how much heat this thing could actually produce using the relatively low current flowing out of your computer’s USB port, but it probably doesn’t take much to heat up a small metal plate. If you want to try one out for yourself, you can find the USB Gas Stove over at Infmetry for $21(USD).
