Coffins remind me of death for obvious reasons. Funerals are usually sad and painful things to go to because it’s never easy to say goodbye to someone you loved forever.
The plain coffins and all the black that everyone at the funeral is wearing doesn’t help either. This didn’t sit right with Olaf Breuning, so he came up with a set of eccentric coffin designs just for the heck of it.
They’re colorful, they’re loud, and they’re everything a coffin isn’t. This is the first and only time I’ll ever described a coffin as ‘fun’ and ‘whimsical.’
Olaf drew these designs up and commissioned coffin makers in Ghana to bring them to life. They look more like kids’ toy chests to me, but maybe that was the entire point: to remove the darkness and sadness from death and to show a whole different side to it.
