Private manufacturer SpaceX recently unveiled the updated version of its Dragon spacecraft. The Dragon V2 has a number of improvements, but the company is particularly proud of its ability to “land anywhere on Earth with the accuracy of a helicopter”, thanks to its SuperDraco engines.

A group of amateur astronomers working with NASA’s blessing raised money to help fund the work needed to reestablish communications with a satellite called ISEE-3 that launched in 1978. That satellite was originally supposed to study the Sun, but it was re-tasked and sent much deeper into space to investigate a comet in the 1980s. 

We’ve already seen a couple of fan-made LEGO versions of Charizard, but if you’d rather have a ready to assemble kit from the company check out lizardman’s proposal. It consists of a very manageable 337 pieces and has lots of joints, making it very poseable.

For those who don’t know, Pyro is one of the X-Men. A lesser known character in the Marvel universe. Even so, his backpack mounted flamethrower is pretty darn cool. I mean hot. It is kind of lame though that Pyro can’t produce fire on his own, but can only control it.

Shawn Thorsson built himself a life-sized ED-209 for this year’s Maker Faire. It is awesome and scary. But not too scary. You gotta handle ED-209 just like you would a Dalek. Just run up some stairs as quick as you can.

3D printers are very useful devices and there are plenty of them on the market today. You will spend at least $500 or more on most of the commercially available printers. That means that a lot of us who might like to play with a 3D printer, but aren’t yet ready to invest haven’t bought one.
