Microsoft has been working hard to get the sales of its Xbox One game console up. The console isn’t exactly selling poorly, but it has generally been outsold by the Sony PS4. One of the reasons that the PS4 has outsold the Xbox One is that some developers have said the PS4 has better graphical performance.
Microsoft is looking to close that performance gap with the announcement that a new software update is coming. The update promises to add more GPU bandwidth. Microsoft says that the update will add 10% more GPU bandwidth. The extra bandwidth won’t improve older games though. Microsoft says that after the June update, developers will need to create games that take advantage of that new bandwidth.
It’s unclear how much difference – if any – this increased capability will make in the games that make it to market.
