The good news is, it’s a great time to upgrade. If you’re still rolling with an old PC or laptop, there are so many huge benefits you’ll notice immediately with a new device. For starters, starting up. Thanks to more powerful and efficient CPUs, new devices can boot up in a few seconds. While it’s a bummer that you won’t be able to use boot up time to put on a pot of coffee, it’s probably a good trade.
For mobile devices, including laptops, battery life has also improved dramatically in the last few years, particularly when Intel’s 4th generation of Core processors came out. Laptops and tablets can now run for anywhere between seven and ten hours on a single charge. Not only are those processors more energy efficient, they offer better performance fit to handle the more complex software and webpages you’ll encounter today, while improved graphics processors are built to handle modern games and higher-quality movies and pictures.
Then, there’s the versatility. Forget about a laptop just being a laptop. Now you can grab 2-in-1 devices that can transform into tablets. Better yet, you have options when it comes to transforming, with the choice between laptops with 360 degree hinges, detachable monitors, or swivel hinges.
Better yet, all of these new advances have been out there for a year or more. That means the first generation jitters, especially when it comes to 2-in-1 devices, are out of the way. Device makers are honing their design choices, leading to new devices that are powerful, efficient, and take consumer demands into account. If ever there was a time to ditch your sluggish old computer, it’s now.
