RegionThree Hack Bypasses Region Locking on Nintendo 3DS: Exploits, Please

 |  |  |  |  |  January 18, 2015

Jordan “Smealum” Rabet, the programmer behind the Ninjhax Nintendo 3DS Homebrew channel, has released another major contribution for gamers looking to maximize the handheld system. His RegionThree loader lets you play 3DS games from any region.

RegionThree works with all 3DS systems except for the New 3DS/3DS XL. Put simply, it uses security flaws in the Nintendo 3DS’ browser and GPU’s memory accessing capabilities to run. Smealum has repeatedly said that he’s against piracy, but as of now for RegionThree to work it needs the browser exploit made by Gateway, a company that makes a 3DS flash cart that lets one run 3DS ROMs or digital copies. Here’s Smealum’s demo of RegionThree:

Head to Smealum’s GitHub page to download and learn more about how RegionThree works. On a related note, I am begging Banpresto to please release English versions of their Super Robot Wars games. Come on guys. Give the Vita some love.
