Ford Launches 3D Printed Model Shop, Downloadable 3D Models

 |  |  |  June 11, 2015

3D printing technology continues to improve in quality and usefulness. In fact, major automotive companies like Ford use the technology as a growing part of their design and prototyping process. Now, Ford has decided to take 3D printing to the masses, teaming up with to produce 3D printed models of their vehicles that anyone can buy.

The new Ford 3D Store offers up printable versions of the F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350R, Focus ST, Focus RS, and Fiesta ST, with more models to come in the future, including the awesome new Ford GT – in full color. The currently available single-color 3D prints measure about 6″ long and sell for $39 each, but you can pay $5 to download an .STL file, and print whatever size or material model you want. Personally, I’d love to have a Ford GT cast in stainless steel. I might have to try that. Or maybe a full-size Ford GT.

But Ford’s 3D digital endeavour doesn’t stop there. Designers can now purchase¬†3D digital files of popular Ford vehicles for use in animation, visual effects, video games and more. Many are very¬†intricate¬†digital models, down to the tiniest detail. The digital files cost between $49 and $199, depending on the level of complexity and available file formats.
