One of the highlights of eating Chinese food is the fortune cookie at the end. The fortunes usually say stupid things and give you some lotto numbers or pronunciation for Chinese words on the back. In Japan, they do fortune cookies differently. They stuff the cookies with cats.
Not cat meat mind you, which will disappoint Alf. These are little toy cats that are painted up and sort of cute. My daughter would make me buy all these.
When you crack them open a little cat shaped toy is inside that is about the size of a nickel. I wonder what the cookie tastes like. I guess it really doesn’t matter, you are buying them for the novelty inside. And no matter what you do, don’t try to eat the cat.
