Olympus TG-870 Camera Takes a Beating and Keeps on Snapping

 |  |  |  |  January 8, 2016

Anytime I take a digital camera with me outside or near the water, I’m nervous about it all day. One splash and it’s gone. Olympus has a new digital camera that you don’t need to worry about called the TG-870. That’s not a memorable name, but the camera has some cool features. It can not only survive rainstorms, you can take it swimming, and you can even dive with it up to 50-feet down.

If you want to get serious about diving, you can go more than 100-feet down with an accessory case. It is also dustproof, freezeproof, shockproof, and can survive drops from up to 7 feet. The camera has 16MP resolution with 5X optical zoom, along with optical image stabilization for photos, and hybrid optical/digital stabilization for video. That video is in full 1080p/60 HD too. A 920,000 dot hi-res tilting screen makes it easy to see what you’re shooting, and it also supports 180-degree flip for shooting self portraits.

GPS is built in so you can remember where you snapped the photo after a drunken night of ambling around (obviously), and it’s also got Wi-Fi capability. The Olympus TG-870 comes in black, green, or white, and sells for $279.99(USD).
