The X-Files Featurette Will Make You Believe in Reboots

The X-Files Featurette Will Make You Believe in Reboots
Back in the day, I was all about The X-Files. I loved that show and watched it faithfully in an era when shows were hard to record and if you missed it, you just missed it.

SmartRemote Contextual Remote Control for Smart Appliances: Faceshifter

SmartRemote Contextual Remote Control for Smart Appliances: Faceshifter
For better or for worse, our appliances are getting smarter. But like their simpler ancestors, they usually come with their own remote controls, be they physical controllers or apps. French startup Sevenhugs thinks it has the answer with SmartRemote, a touchscreen universal remote control for connected devices. Ideally, SmartRemote works like this: you point it at your TV, and it turns into a TV remote, but when you point it at your LED bulb, it automatically switches to the color and brightness controls.

Snoop Dogg Wants to Know What the F**k is Bill Gates Is Doin’

Snoop Dogg Wants to Know What the F**k is Bill Gates Is Doin’
I’m a fan of Snoop Dogg and while I like some of his music, it’s mostly for his zero f**ks given attitude. Snoop is apparently a gamer and he is tired of all Bill Gates’ bullsh*t.

Showing Virtual Reality Games in 2D Video: Mixed Reality

Showing Virtual Reality Games in 2D Video: Mixed Reality
It’s hard to demonstrate or promote virtual reality experiences with our current devices and interfaces. The people who upload VR videos often resort to point-of-view footage, but as Northway Games’ Sarah Northway said, that perspective gives us a cropped and distorted view of the virtual world.

Remember Robot Wars? The show that pits robot against robot in a fight to the death? Well, the BBC are bringing back the series with more robots and more destruction. In case you don’t know, Robot Wars ran on the BBC between 1998 and 2003, and was hugely popular.

Guy Makes $230,000 House out of 700 Year-Old Cave

Guy Makes $230,000 House out of 700 Year-Old Cave
Angelo Mastropietro made a kick ass home out of a cave. No, this luxury home for the modern caveman doesn’t have a Batmobile or a Bat-Pole that you can slide down, but it should. Despite that, it is way better than your non-cave home. Mastropietro’s diagnosis of multiple sclerosis made him examine his life and figure what was important to him.

Bizarre Mickey Mouse Head Music Visualizer Thingy Commissioned by Disney

Bizarre Mickey Mouse Head Music Visualizer Thingy Commissioned by Disney
This Mickey Mouse inspired musical sculpture is more than a bit creepy. It looks like someone cut the heads off of Deadmau5 and Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and smashed them together. The thing is called the MikeyFon and was commissioned by Disney and built by a Polish firm called PanGenerator. The giant Mickey head has a screen on the front where the eyes would be that shows a colorful visualization of sounds or music the giant ears hear.

Batman v Superman Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots Toy

Batman v Superman Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots Toy
Remember Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots? That was a fun fighting game. We played it, our parents played it in their day, and now the kids of today have a new version with Batman and Superman duking it out.

TinyLab Arduino-based Prototyping Board: Test a Sketch

TinyLab Arduino-based Prototyping Board: Test a Sketch
Prototyping has become very easy and affordable these days, but it still can be messy. Startup Bosphorus Mechatronics got tired of wiring, soldering and stacking shields too, so they came up with TinyLab. Put simply, TinyLab is an Arduino Leonardo paired with a variety of commonly used components, all packed into a 8″x 5″ slab.

Life-size LEGO BB-8 is Worth a Ton of Portions

Life-size LEGO BB-8 is Worth a Ton of Portions
Well now I’m sad that I used the lighter pun on the tiny LEGO BB-8. LEGO certified builders Bright Bricks built this awesome life-size model of BB-8 for the UK premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He’s also a bit of a BB-Q – there’s a rod that goes through the model’s head and body to secure them to the base. Here’s BB-8 on display, along with what appear to be life-size LEGO models of Kylo Ren and Rey.

This Scarf Thermometer Works, Gives You the Temperature

This Scarf Thermometer Works, Gives You the Temperature
This scarf with a built-in thermometer seems kind of superfluous. I mean, you already know it’s cold outside. That’s why you are wearing the scarf in the first place. Still, it’s pretty cool that your scarf can tell you the exact temperature. The thermometer scarf was made by Instructables member caitlinsdad.

Periodic Table Battleship: You Sank My Beryllium!

Periodic Table Battleship: You Sank My Beryllium!
What if the classic game of Battleship got geekier? Karyn Tripp of the homeschooling education site Teach Beside Me decided to make this game geekier and educational in order to teach the kids the elements. So she created a Periodic Table edition. She created the game using four laminated copies of the Periodic Table which were labeled alphabetically by row and column, then inserted into two file folders with jumbo paper clips.

Lian Li adds to its roster of unorthodox PC cases with the Odyssey, a limited edition yacht-themed aluminum chassis. Anything is indeed possible. The Odyssey will come in white or silver. It measures about 29″x 12″x 10″ and has room for a mini-ITX motherboard, two 3.5″

Praying Mantis Gets 3D Glasses in Coolest Scientific Test Ever

Praying Mantis Gets 3D Glasses in Coolest Scientific Test Ever
I like to imagine that the scientists who come up with experiments sit around and think of the most awesome things they can do, even if they have little real world value. I bet there were back claps all around when one of them said, “Let’s put 3D glasses on a praying mantis!”
