Aido Robot Wants to Be Your Home Companion

Aido Robot Wants to Be Your Home Companion
Aido is a forthcoming robot for the home which is designed to act as a personal assistant and entertainment hub that can follow you around. If you have seen the flick Wall-E, I don’t see how you can miss the resemblance that Aido has to Wall-E’s robotic girlfriend Eve.

Hidden Prison Architect 3D Mode Puts You Behind Bars

Hidden Prison Architect 3D Mode Puts You Behind Bars
I’ve spent many an hour building prisons to house inmates in Prison Architect. I’ve also spent a bunch of hours frustrated because I can’t seem to keep the prisoners from rioting or tunneling out no matter how many guards or dogs I have.

ATLAS Robot Gets Foul Mouthed

ATLAS Robot Gets Foul Mouthed
We’ve seen what Boston Dynamics ATLAS robot can do. It’s an impressive piece of engineering. Surely a milestone on the journey to humanity’s ultimate destruction. But what would ATLAS say if we could hear his thoughts?

The Smart Rope Jump Rope Displays Jump Count in the Air
Do you like to jump rope as part of your exercise routine? Let me introduce you to Tangram Factory’s Smart Rope, a jump rope with 23 LEDs embedded in the middle of the rope that light up in front of you to display your current jump count while you’re jumping, courtesy of the old persistence of vision effect. You can pair it with a smartphone if you want to keep track of calories burned and other stats.

Review: 2016 Dell XPS 12 – A 2-in-1 Wonder

Review: 2016 Dell XPS 12 – A 2-in-1 Wonder
I’ve been a regular user of the 2015 and 2016 model Dell XPS laptops – the XPS 13 and XPS 15, and have been very impressed with the overall performance, usability and build quality of these portable workhorses.

Make a Mini Rotary Tool from a Bottle Cap

Make a Mini Rotary Tool from a Bottle Cap
These days, Dremel rotary tools are pretty affordable, but if you want one for the price of free you can make one from stuff you likely already have around the house. It may not have all of the power of the real thing, but it will handle simple jobs for you. This is a simple build that uses a small motor, a 9 volt battery, a switch, some electrical tape and hot glue.

Virtual Reality Movie Theater Opening in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is getting a unique and very cool theater that will have movie fans giving up stadium seating and a big screen for rotating chairs and goggles. The project is called The Virtual Reality cinema and it will use chairs that can swivel 360-degrees, Samsung Gear VR headsets, and surround sound via Sennheiser HD 201 headphones. The big screen will be replaced with Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphones.

Fake Bob Ross Builds a Super Mario Level

Fake Bob Ross Builds a Super Mario Level
I spent many a summer day watching Bob Ross paint on PBS growing up. He made it look so easy and there were never mistakes, only happy little birds and happy little trees. I always figured Bob was high as a MF when he made his show. The geeks over at A Dumb Thing dressed a guy up in a giant curly ‘fro wig and set him to painting digitally by building a level in Super Mario Maker, using the Wii U’s controller as his artist’s pallette.

T-shirt that Reveals a 3D Model of the Human Torso: Virtuali-Tee

T-shirt that Reveals a 3D Model of the Human Torso: Virtuali-Tee
The first wave of virtual reality headsets are prohibitively expensive. But thanks to companies like Curiscope, we can experience the resurgent technology on the cheap. The company has created a t-shirt called Virtuali-Tee that projects a 3D model of the bones and organs inside the human torso. The Virtuali-Tee is printed with a special graphic where the accompanying app projects the 3D model.

LEGO Mario POW Block Can Really Do Some Damage

LEGO Mario POW Block Can Really Do Some Damage
Super LEGO maker ZaziNombies’ latest creation is based on one of the Mario series’ oldest and most powerful items. His POW Block replica is made of 400 to 500 LEGO pieces, which means it can hurt at least 400 feet after it’s thrown. Watch it explode and wreak havoc on helpless stacks of cups: ZaziNombies MOCs often show me LEGO colors I never thought existed, and this POW block is no different.

Make Your Own Origami Darth Vader

Make Your Own Origami Darth Vader
The Force is strong with this origami Darth Vader. He may look adorable, but that lightsaber could still give you a serious papercut, so don’t underestimate him. He’s more paper now than man. However, there is still good in him, I feel it.

Run Obscure Apple II Software from Your Browser: The 4am Collection
The Apple II dominated the PC scene for over a decade, which meant a ton of applications were made for the series and its clones. For instance, its roster of top tier games could go toe-to-toe with that of dedicated gaming systems.

Flexible & Modular Sensor Array: SensorTape

Flexible & Modular Sensor Array: SensorTape
Last month we checked out a decorative tape with a circuit board design. It turns out that researchers at MIT Media Lab’s Responsive Environments group have considered such a form factor for interconnected and programmable sensors, and are looking for potential customers for their product. Artem Dementyev, Hsin-Liu (Cindy) Kao and Joseph Paradiso’s Sensortape consists of sensors that communicate with each other to detect their position in 3D.

ColorWare Retro 5K iMac, Magic Mouse & Magic Keyboard: Apple ][expensive

ColorWare Retro 5K iMac, Magic Mouse & Magic Keyboard: Apple ][expensive
ColorWare’s patrons are clearly willing to pay a premium to own unique gadgets. Its Apple IIe-inspired Retro MacBook Air and iPhone 6s/6s Plus were such a hit that the company has given the same treatment to the 27″ Retina 5K iMac, along with the bundled mouse and keyboard. All three pieces of hardware have been decked out in the throwback light beige color.

He-Finn the Human Action Figure: Masters of the Oooniverse
Citizens of Oooternia, Prince Finn is here to protect you from the Icer King, Marcel-Lyn and Skelemongrab, thanks to toy modder James Freckingham aka Robotic Industries. The bootleg action figure is based on a one-off toy that James made last year using parts from vintage figures (note the bracers and loincloth).
