Olive Autonomous Suitcase Will Follow You Around the Airport

 |  |  |  July 11, 2016

I like to travel, but with all the people in the airport, getting your luggage through to the airplane can be a hassle. A cool autonomous robot suitcase from Ikap Robotics called Olive aims to alleviate some of this inconvenience. It has a number of unique capabilities, but the big feature is integrated sensors that allow the suitcase to autonomously follow along behind you as you walk.

The bag’s object recognition algorithms use fancy skeleton tracking tech that can follow you even in a crowded area. The bag interfaces with your smartphone via Bluetooth allowing you to lock or unlock the bag and to get warnings if the bag is tampered with.

One of the other cool features is the ability to ride on the Olive as you would a Segway thanks to its integrated self-balancing scooter. You can also use the battery inside the bag to charge your smartphone while you sit and wait for your connecting flight.

Pricing and availability are unannounced at this time. You have to wonder if airlines would allow this aboard, given the recent ban on so-called “hoverboards” on flights.
