I love a good game of Monopoly. I’ve always thought the design of the board, its pieces, and currency were timeless and iconic. But I’ve never seen a Monopoly set this awesome looking.
This very special limited version of the classic board game from made in collaboration with Nakagawa Masamichi Shoten features design elements inspired by Japanese arts & crafts. The asanoha pattern on the board is cool, but what makes this really special are the bonus game pieces, which are inspired by Japanese symbols like the maneki-nero lucky cat, deer, and daruma. These pieces come in addition to a set of colorful and abstract deer figures.
Locations on the board are inspired by Japanese craft businesses, and the set also features special thematic “Future” and “Zipangu” cards in place of the Chance and Community Chest cards. These are bilingual in Japanese and English.
Just 5,000 of the sets have been produced. If you search around, you might be able to order one direct from Japan, but if you don’t mind paying a significant markup, Japan Trend Shop will sell you one for $118(USD).
