There have been many times of late when I have sat back and wondered what Apple was thinking. Sometimes I feel like Tim Cook is sitting in his office thinking up what he can do to mess with Apple fans today. I can see no other reason for launching the new MacBooks and ditching almost all the connectivity options. If you have a new MacBook Pro and you want to get back your ports, you need the HyperDrive.
This relatively compact add-on is a hub that plugs into two of your USB-C ports and brings back all your connectivity. You get an HDMI port, Thunderbolt 3 port, USB-C port, microSD card slot, SD card slot, and a pair of USB 3.1 ports. Running at up to 50Gb/s, there’s enough bandwidth to use all those ports at the same time.
The Thunderbolt port will also allow you to charge the notebook as you use it. The HyperDrive is on Kickstarter and will set you back $69(USD). Shipping expected to start in March 2017. Take that Tim Cook.
