Panasonic has shown off a new robot it simply calls “Companion.” It looks sort of like a cross between Mork from Ork’s spaceship and Wall-E. That is to say it is an egg-shaped bot with a 50 lumen WVGA 854 x 480 resolution projector inside its one big eye.
The blender-sized ‘bot uses artificial intelligence with natural language processing to support its communication skills, navigation, motion control, vision, and sensing. It’s not clear what sort of tasks it can perform other than drive around, answer questions, and play video files though.
The brain of the ‘bot is a 1.2GHz 64/32-bit quad-core processor, and it connects to the world via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Pricing is unannounced, as is when the Panasonic Companion robot might launch.
