Umbrella Drone Keeps Raindrops from Fallin’ on Your Head

I’ve never visited England, but if what I see on movies and TV is true, it rains there all the time. That means the English have to cart around an umbrella much of the time or risk being soaked. Since most people I see walking around the cities here have a coffee in one hand and a smartphone in the other, this doesn’t leave much room for operating an umbrella.

This is where the Umbrella Drone comes in. This gizmo is a DJI Phantom 4 drone that has a yellow umbrella on its top. The drone supposedly follows your movements via your smartphone’s GPS. Drones Direct claims that it will hover over you and keep your dry.

That means you can sip coffee with one hand and use your smartphone with the other even in bad weather. The drone has obstacle avoidance tech inside to keep it from crashing. The drone sells for £1299.00 or a bit over $1,615 USD. This seems like an April Fools prank, but it’s only January.
