ThinkGeek Is Closing Its Website?!?

 |

Written by Shane McGlaun | June 14, 2019

Over the years around here, we have perused ThinkGeek on the daily looking for cool stuff that geeks would want. We’ve also purchased more than a few of those geeky items for ourselves. I still have that air guitar shirt that plays music around here somewhere.

ThinkGeek was gobbled up by GameStop a while back, and the two maintain separate stores, with some ThinkGeek items at GameStop stores. ThinkGeek has now announced that it officially closing up shop and everything is going to GameStop – that’s a sad day for geekdom.

In the final moments of the ThinkGeek website, they’re offering some excellent deals, including a 50% off deal with promo code MOVINGDAY. Keep in mind that all sales are final.

For the last two decades, we here at ThinkGeek have had more fun than a barrel of monkeys being the destination retailer for all things geek. In that time, we went from selling a single T-shirt, to running a growing online business that caught the eye of a pretty big company (who then adopted us!), to being a full-fledged retailer with over 40 actual, real-life stores. Today, we’re announcing that we’ll be moving back in with our roommates (ahem, parents) over at GameStop. We know, cohabitating with the ‘rents may not be the coolest thing to announce on social, but there will be some changes and we’re guessing you’ll have questions. Click the link in our bio for all the info. And some things our lawyers made us say!

This kind of sucks. We like ThinkGeek, and it doesn’t appear that any fans of the website are happy about the deal. As more and more games move to streaming and download formats, GameStop is seen as a sinking ship, and it might take ThinkGeek with it. Sad we are today.
