Honda Releases $995 Motocompacto Electric Scooter

Available now from Honda dealers nationwide, the Motocompacto is a compact moto (just like the name suggests!) in the form of a slim, all-electric scooter. The unit folds up entirely into its 29″ x 21″ x 4″ frame for easy transport when you’re not riding it and weighs just 43.1 pounds. I could carry it on my back! Well, if I didn’t already have a bad back.

Capable of reaching speeds up to 15 MPH with a range of about 12 miles on a full charge, the Motocompacto makes a great sit-down scooter option for short commutes around town or campus. It does not make a great choice for commutes that involve major roads or highways or for a cross-country trek (electric plugs are few and far between in the middle of nowhere).

If I lived in a more commutable city, I’d actually be tempted to get one. Of course, mine would require some modifications before being fit to ride – mostly in the form of an Ahooga horn, flame decals, and trucker lady mudflaps.
