For digital musicians who have longed for a performance controller for Ableton Live, you’ll be totally stoked to check out this cool new control pod that lets you interact with Ableton Live in real time.
Designed as a collaboration between Ableton and Novation, the new Launchpad is a dedicated controller that offers a 64-button grid of backlit buttons which can be used to create and display music sequences using the same sort of interactive interface you might find in a Monome or a Tenori-On.
When I think steampunk, I must say that my mind does not then go immediately to Star Wars. But it’s a rule of the Internet that if two things exist, they must be put together. Hence, the steampunk R2-D2.
The world of Katamari Damacy is a strange one, to be sure, but it sure is cute. The Prince and his colorful cousins are each cuter than the others, and though the idea of sticking people and animals to a giant ball and then rolling them around is pretty horrific if you think about it, in Katamari, even this sort of dire torture manages to be adorable.
Fauxblademaster Aaron makes “convention safe” video game swords and shields in his spare time. He hasn’t made a ton of them yet, but each of his creations are very detailed. Here’s one of his creations, a fiberglass replica of the Twilight Princess version of the Master Sword, Link’s trusty weapon in the Legend of Zelda series.
Just about the only thing good about the recent Transformers movie are the new versions of our beloved Autobots and Decepticons. Although I’m sure some of you will say that even the new designs suck. Also the movie changes POVs and angles every nanosecond so we hardly got to appreciate the designs anyway.
Some babies are just hipper than others. You can tell by their expensive t-shirts and awesome accessories. It’s not any baby who can rock a cushy Cthulhu play blanket, you know?
Craftster FicklePegasus has turned an office joke into a handmade gift fit for only the coolest of babies: a soft and cuddly Cthulhu, complete with tentacular arms of love that can hold toys to engage tykes.
If there’s a reason why most things that come from Pixar are so geek-friendly, it’s probably because most of the people at Pixar are geeks. Take Angus MacLane. He was the Lead Animator on WALL-E, which was well received by most geeks for obvious reasons (robots).
Now that you’ve got your Donkey Kong, Pac-Man and Tetris retro mini arcade cabinets, it’s time to add to your tiny arcade collection with a few slightly newer games. These 4-inch long mini arcade games are modeled after classics from SEGA’s arcade hey-day.
That’s right: each Spock Monkey is a combination of three halves, resulting in one logical, emotionally detached yet huggable primate. I used Vulcan math to calculate Spock Monkey’s constitution.
Each Spock Monkey is lovingly handmade, so each of them is unique.
Maybe I haven’t been looking in the right places, but I haven’t noticed an overwhelming amount of crafts inspired by the tragically short-lived Firefly and the accompanying movie, Serenity. Even if I had, however, this little knit rendition of the ship would probably trump most of them.
According to the list of Autobots at Wikipedia there are at least 8 Autobots that transform into vans or SUVs, including the popular ambulance Ratchet and the gutsy Ironhide. Unfortunately 0 out of those 8 Autobots are real (I think).
Ah, the office life. Waking up early, wearing”business casual”, pretending to work for 8 hours, getting promoted to a different position but with the same duties and salary (from Domestic Purchasing Specialist to Local Marketing Officer.
TRON is one of the most famous geek movies of all time, and what better way to pay homage to the film than with another geek favorite? Flickr user/blocksmith/80s baby (I suppose) 2×4 created these neat LEGO light cycles and even posted step-by-step instructions on his Flick page.
A brave soul could come up with piles and piles of adjectives to lay upon the Halo franchise, but “cute” usually isn’t one that comes up (unless you’re talking about playing with the Grunt Birthday Party skull on).
Not to go all shameless self-promotion on ya’ll, but if you happen to read Geekadelphia (another site I write for) you know that I have an unhealthy crush on Nathan Fillion – A.K.A. Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly.
