I loved me some Mel Brooks films growing up; Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs were my favorites. Spaceballs was a hilarious mockery of the Star Wars franchise, and one of the most immediately recognizable characters from the film is Dark Helmet.
One of my all-time favorite movies from when I was a kid was Short Circuit. For you Millennials who weren’t even around in 1986, Short Circuit is a movie about a laser wielding military robot that gets struck by lightning and becomes a cute sentient robot that I’m pretty sure Wall-E was based on.
Not long ago we watched a video of a LEGO Porsche being strapped to a real crash test sled and smashed into an obstacle. The LEGO Porsche was thoroughly destroyed in the test. Now we have another LEGO car being crushed into blocky bits after being fired out of some sort of air cannon.
Beyond the Press loaded up their pneumatic cannon with a couple of different LEGO cars and sent them flying.
While everyone is waiting for more Game of Thrones on HBO, and for George R.R. Martin to finish his next book, we need something to occupy our time. How about this awesome LEGO version of the Red Keep Throne Room from Game of Thrones?
It was created by Chicago software engineer Matt Omori, who spent over a year building it.
I watched quite a few reruns of Wonder Woman with Linda Carter growing up. I also watched more than my share of Justice League cartoons on Saturday mornings. The thing I remember most about the Wonder Woman TV series was her invisible jet.
If you ever saw Gremlins, you know that Mogwai can be adorable. They can also be a bit mischievous. Take for example, this LEGO Gizmo who’s hiding away in his wooden box waiting to pop up and charm you with his big saucer eyes.
LEGO fanatic John Toulouse created this awesome build that’s sure to warm the heart of any ’80s kid.
Everything I know about hedgehogs I learned playing video games, so I am sure these facts are accurate. That means they have spiky blue hair and they can run really fast, right? If you think real life hedgehogs are cute, you will want to get hands on these hedgehog mini-figures.
They are meant to dangle from the rim of your drinking glass.
I’ve always wondered what it took to build the actual models used in the original Star Wars franchise. Those original movies looked great and had no computer animation in them. Bandai Hobby is getting ready to release a model kit that is a 1/72-scale Millennium Falcon model that is billed as almost as accurate and precise as those used in the filming.
The model kit is expected to sell for around $400.
Build-A-Bear has just added an adorable plush to their Pokémon collection that will gladly take your money. That would be Squirtle in a raincoat . It may just be the cutest thing ever and may just make up for your inability to catch them all.
Just be aware that this plush is an online exclusive.
Impressive. Most impressive. Darth Vader was pretty badass in Rogue One and now he goes back to being adorable with this new Funko Pop figure. He’s super adorable.
This figure has a Death Star base and Darth Vader is riding his TIE Fighter as if it was one of those coin operated rides for kids.
I used to watch Rugrats way back in the day before I had kids, and thought there was no way kids can actually get into that much trouble. I was so wrong. When my son was barely walking he managed to get spaghetti sauce and paint the walls with it.
As a child of the ’80s we didn’t have fidget spinners when I was growing up. We also had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to school, but that is another story. The closest we had to a fidget spinner in my house was twirling the TV remote between your fingers until it shot across the room and bounced off the all glass console TV screen, and the punishment that followed.
Fidget spinners. Why did it have to be a fidget spinner? I promised myself I wouldn’t post an article about another one, but here comes the world’s largest fidget spinner. So here I am telling you about another one.
As a child of the ’80s, you can bet I love my arcade games. Traditionally, I prefer them on the big cabinets that used to consume my dollars back in the day. If you want something a bit (well a lot) smaller than those old school arcade machines, you can get that with this tiny playable arcade kit.
This little gizmo fits in the palm of your hand and has two buttons and a joystick.
Man, I hate fidget spinners. They are so stupid. In fact, I’m only sharing this one to illustrate how stupid this whole thing is. Then I hope to never do a fidget spinner article again. Anyway, at least this guy did something creative with them, aside from just fidgeting like a moron.
This is a fidget spinner made from other fidget spinners, which now becomes some kind of Transformer-evolution-mutant fidget spinner.
If you like to learn about space, the planets and stars, this desktop Solar System might be just for you. It’s motorized allowing the planets to orbit around a glowing lamp sun. It’s not 100% accurate, but it’s a reasonable facsimile of our little corner of the universe.
The mechanism that powers the Solar System is designed to allow you to see the relative orbital periods of inner versus outer planets.
