USS Enterprise Rebuild Underway at Smithsonian Space Dock

USS Enterprise Rebuild Underway at Smithsonian Space Dock
Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation and later Trek productions know that computer graphics were used extensively, meaning there generally aren’t models of the Enterprise from Picard’s reign on. In the original series, the Enterprise was an 11-foot long model that had lights inside.

Cat Motorcycle Helmets are Pawesome

Cat Motorcycle Helmets are Pawesome
If you are a motorcyclist who also happens to be a hardcore cat person, check this out. Here are a bunch of helmets that have ears and look like a cat’s face. There are several designs and while some look like normal cats, others look like something out of Wonderland. All of the visors have cat faces on them with little dots that allow you to see out without vision being blocked.

DIY Bluetooth LED Cloud Lamp: Cumulocheapus

DIY Bluetooth LED Cloud Lamp: Cumulocheapus
You may have heard of Richard Clarkson and his beautiful but absurdly expensive Cloud lamps. If you’re willing to settle for a more modest design, you can save thousands of dollars by making your own cloud lamp using Eclectical Engineering’s guide. Eclectical Engineering’s lamp is based on an Arduino Uno and Adafruit’s NeoPixel strips.

Custom NES Game Room: Nintendo Entertainment Sanctuary

Custom NES Game Room: Nintendo Entertainment Sanctuary
This awesome custom game room sums up my childhood pretty well. I played a ton of NES game, and in my mind, this was what the room looked like. Over a period of just two weeks, imgur user tylerfulltilt hand-built this amazing NES-themed entertainment center.

Macintosh Classic Turned from Trash to Trash Bin

Macintosh Classic Turned from Trash to Trash Bin
Redditor HaHaBird bought several Mac Classic shells at a surplus shop a decade ago. He never figured out what to do with them until recently, when he converted one into a trash bin. The bin’s main feature is its screen, which swings inward like the door on a normal trash bin.

Disney Scented Candles Smell Like the Haunted Mansion

Disney Scented Candles Smell Like the Haunted Mansion
When I was about ten, my parents took my brother and I to Disney. He was about five and we got into this argument in the elevator of the Haunted Mansion about if the costumed figure standing there was real or a mannequin.

Remote-controlled Mini Strandbeest: Thighmiya

Remote-controlled Mini Strandbeest: Thighmiya
Theo Jansen’s kinetic sculptures are meant to be powered by wind – and occasionally a hamster – but YouTuber Maxime G found a way to tame a Mini Strandbeest. Maxime G used a couple of Arduino Nanos, a 3V motor and a Nordic RF transmitter to make the mechanical creature move on command. Check out the video’s description on YouTube for Maxime G’s parts list. Some might say turning a Strandbeest into a cyborg ruins the point of the sculptures.

Cx5 Sculptable 3D Printing Filament: Man and Machine, Artist Extreme

Cx5 Sculptable 3D Printing Filament: Man and Machine, Artist Extreme
We’ve seen a 3D printer that can print with clay. Adam Beane Industries’ upcoming Cx5 filament on the other hand can behave like clay when heated, allowing you to easily modify or refine a printed object. Although the company has yet to divulge specifics on its new product, the filament is most likely based on the company’s eponymous sculpting material, which is durable and strong when cool, behaves like clay when heated to 125ºF (~52ºC) and becomes practically a liquid if heated further.

LEGO Mechatronic Wings: Mindstorms Give You Wings

LEGO Mechatronic Wings: Mindstorms Give You Wings
In 2014, fashion designer Anouk Wipprecht made a robotic spider dress that can brandish its spiky appendages when something comes too close to the wearer. Anouk’s new wearable wings have a similar feature. Since they’re made with LEGO, they’re easier to build than the arachnid-inspired armor. The wings are mainly made of Mindstorms EV3 and Technic parts.

Snowball Machine Gun: Cold War

Snowball Machine Gun: Cold War
The latest innovation in snowball fights comes from scientist and hacker Mark Rober, who, has taken the sport to the next level with his snowball machine gun. Basically what he has done is instilled fear into bundled up children everywhere, by outfitting an Echo Leaf Blower into a dominating weapon that wins any snowball fight. Rober added a 15-snowball ‘magazine’ to the leaf blower, an open tube that’s controlled by a plunger.

Super Mario Maker Wallpaper Editor: Wall ∞-∞

Super Mario Maker Wallpaper Editor: Wall ∞-∞
Not content with making you make your own game, Nintendo now wants you to make your own wallpaper. Seriously though, the big N’s Super Mario Maker wallpaper editor is an excellent time waster. The editor’s interface is almost the same as the eponymous Wii U hit, which is fortunate because as of this writing, the website appears to be in Japanese only.

Check out This Amazing Optical Illusion Cutting Board
I’ve always been enamored of end-grain wooden cutting boards that are made of cubes of wood. They just look really great, and it’s clear that a ton of labor went into their creation. This particular cutting board is especially impressive, using its blocks to form a 3D depth illusion. The board was created by Andrei Muntian of MTM Wood using a carefully arranged series of wood strips, cut into alternating blocks of maple and walnut wood.

LEGO Teedo & Luggabeast Concept Set May Never Hit Jackpot

LEGO Teedo & Luggabeast Concept Set May Never Hit Jackpot
Rey and BB-8’s first meeting was made more memorable by an opportunistic Teedo scavenger and an adorable Luggabeast. LEGO Ideas member hongtzer honors the desert duo with this proposed playset. Hongtzer says he tried to make the luggabeast as simple as possible so that kids could assemble it on their own. Sadly, just like on Jakku, it looks like these two are destined to be bit players.

Star Wars: Episode VII’s Niima Outpost in LEGO

Star Wars: Episode VII’s Niima Outpost in LEGO
And now for the coolest Star Wars: The Force Awakens LEGO diorama we have seen so far… This huge diorama depicts the junkyard settlement Niima Outpost on Jakku in LEGO form. This amazing display was made by Wookieewarrior – probably as a way to show off that huge Millennium Falcon model.

DIY 3D Printed Light-up Halo Energy Sword: Slice & Solder

DIY 3D Printed Light-up Halo Energy Sword: Slice & Solder
There are tons of foam or plastic replicas of the iconic Energy Sword, but tinkerers can make one that does more with less weight with the help of Adafruit’s guide. The company’s design uses 3D printed components and a pair of RGB LED strips to create a cool prop or toy. The replica is based on Adafruit’s Arduino-compatible Feather microcontroller and its NeoPixel LED strip.

Otto the Robot Draws on Walls

Otto the Robot Draws on Walls
Jurg Lehni has created a wall-mounted robotic drawing tool named Otto. This robot can draw and color vector shapes that have been entered into a computer. Otto is just a fun robot that people can admire in action as it draws on the wall.
