Obituaries are often rather depressing, for reasons which should be fairly obvious. Normally they’re written in a somber tone the reminds the reader not of the person being remembered, but of the fact that they should be grieving. 

Meditation is a good thing. We all know that, and most of us derive some pretty cool mental benefits from it. Taoists also say that if you’re really good at meditating you can physically change your own body, and that it’s rather useful.

Cancer sucks. There’s no cure (yet) – only prevention – and no one’s exempt from either getting it now or in the future. Every year, men and women, young and old, fall ill to the dreaded Big ‘C’.

I’ve had problems with computers and video game systems overheating over the years, so I’m all for good cooling systems. And while some computer modders have solved the problem by adding more cooling fans and heat sinks, I think this build might just be a bit more than most of us need.

Researchers from Singapore have created a small robot designed to remove stomach cancer in its early stages. Ironically, this tiny robot looks like a crab, since it uses a pincer and a hook to do the job.

Unless you have good reason to know what a trachea is, it might be new word for you. The trachea is the part of the human body most often referred to as the windpipe. A 36-year-old man has become the first person to successfully have a trachea transplant using a synthetic trachea grown from a synthetic scaffold seeded with his own stem cells.

Can mental or emotional stress damage our DNA? An experiment has shown that the presence of gray hair means that the melanocyte stem cells in hair follicles – that ones that become melanocytes that give color to hair –  have badly damaged DNA.
