The Chromebook is a slim, lightweight, alternative to the traditional laptop. Sure, it may have less storage and you probably won’t find the most powerful processors in a Chromebook. But you know what? They’re great as what they do, and to that end they’re “bang for buck” is unparalleled by most if not all laptops.

When it comes to laptops, there are many things that manufacturers can learn from Apple. That being said, there are plenty of MacBook and MacBook Pro alternatives that are worth checking out. Google’s just upped the ante with the release of their Chromebook Pixel, which has some features that the next generation of MacBooks might have.

We talked a bit about Google considering offering rental Chromebook computers in the past. Little over a year ago, the topic came up with prices expected to start at about $20 per month. Google has now announced the launch of rentals for Chromebooks and bulk purchases for its Apps customers.

Yes Google Chromebooks are now available, but I bet that you haven’t really given one a try. Starting today, and until September, Google will lend you a Chromebook on select Virgin America routes. You’ll even get free inflight Wi-Fi to go with.

Google just announced something that’s been rumored for a few weeks. They’re going to be releasing a paid subscription model for their Chromebooks, which are laptop computers from Samsung and Acer loaded with the Chrome OS.
