Ben Heck’s PS360 Sixaxis Controller

Ben Heck’s PS360 Sixaxis Controller
Console modder extraordinaire Ben Heck is at it again. This time, he’s carefully taken the guts of the Playstation 3’s SIXAXIS controller and sandwiched them inside of an Xbox 360’s wireless controller. There’s something that’s oh-so-wrong but oh-so-right about the strange bedfellows coming together to form a single mutant controller.

Xbox 360 Qwerty Keyboard Add-on Confirmed

Xbox 360 Qwerty Keyboard Add-on Confirmed
Earlier today, Gamespot made mention of an upcoming QWERTY keyboard add-on for the Xbox 360 controller. Since that time, the post was yanked, but Engadget posted some rather slick looking images of what the controller could will look like.

Wii-Motes Coming in New Colors?

Wii-Motes Coming in New Colors?
There’s a rumor floating around today that Nintendo is going to release a series of new controllers for the Wii in at least three new colors. Both the Wii-mote and Nunchuk controller are expected to be released in silver, blue and pearlescent pink sometime later this Spring.

Like the NES Power Glove on Steroids

Like the NES Power Glove on Steroids
Way back in 1989, long before today’s Wii-mote and the SIXAXIS motion sensing controllers, Mattel launched their rather silly looking, but ahead-of-its-time Power Glove controller for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Now, Immersion Corporation is offering a modern update to the concept with their CyberGlove II Wireless Data Glove.

Pimp Your Sixaxis Controller

Pimp Your Sixaxis Controller
Don’t care for the clean design of the PS3’s SIXAXIS controller? Why not make it super fugly with these analog joystick covers from Japan. These oddly textured silicon caps attach to the top of the PlayStation 3’s analog sticks, supposedly protecting the thumbsticks and providing grip, all while making your controller the ugliest one on the block.

PS3 Sixaxis Rumble Solution Possible

PS3 Sixaxis Rumble Solution Possible
One thing sorely lacking from Sony’s SIXAXIS controller for the PS3 is the rumble sensation that’s present in pretty much all of the other major gaming systems out there. Sony claimed they left it out due because it interfered with the systems motion sensors, but conventional wisdom tells us that a legal dispute between Sony and Immersion kept the controllers rumble-free.

Pocket Gamepad Folds and Fits in Your Pocket

Pocket Gamepad Folds and Fits in Your Pocket
This little USB controller has a fun little trick up its sleeve. The Pocket Gamepad is hinged in the middle, folds in half and flips shut for maximum portability. The compact game controller measures just 3.93″ x 1.81″ x 0.47″ when opened and about half that width and twice that depth when folded up.

Sony Files Patent for Motion Sensing Controller

Sony Files Patent for Motion Sensing Controller
Back in May 2006, Sony filed a patent application, titled “Detectable and Trackable Handheld Controller,” which approaches motion sensing control in a totally different way than the Nintendo Wii does it. Unlike the Wii’s internal accelerometer and gyroscopic sensors, Sony’s patent uses a series of four LEDs on the front of the controller, which provide points of reference for a webcam device that sits on top of a TV.

Nyko Recharge Docks for PS3 and Wii Controllers

Nyko Recharge Docks for PS3 and Wii Controllers
I recently reported on Joytech’s rechargeable controller dock for the Wii. Now, Nyko is getting into the game with charging cradles for both the Wii and the Playstation 3’s SIXAXIS controllers. Filling a void in both Nintendo’s and Sony’s product lines, the docks allow you to neatly recharge your controllers without unsightly cables running between the controllers and the consoles.

PS3 Using Wii-Mote Control

PS3 Using Wii-Mote Control
At the Binary 2.0 Conference in Japan, a presentation was given using the Nintendo Wii remote controller to operate a Sony Playstation 3. The catch? The controller was installed as a device using a custom Python driver under Linux on the PS3.

Make Your Wii Controllers Rechargeable

Make Your Wii Controllers Rechargeable
If you’re sick and tired of changing the AA batteries in your Wii-mote, you might want to check out Joytech’s new charging dock for Nintendo Wii controllers. The Joytech Wii Power Station comes with two rechargeable battery packs, and provides docking bays to charge two remotes at once.

Whether or not you believe all of the incidents that have occurred due to a faulty wrist strap on Nintendo’s Wii controller, Nintendo certainly doesn’t want to take any chances and today issued a recall, and started offering free replacement wrist straps.

The Flying Wii Controller

The Flying Wii Controller
There are all kinds of stories starting to surface on the web about how the Wii-mote is flying out of people’s hands and breaking various things. Apparently the wrist strap isn’t really designed for significant stress.
