I’ve always thought of C-3PO and R2-D2 as a couple of endearing, but not exactly attractive little droids. These ladies are definitely not the droids I was looking for – but now I can’t help but stare.
Don’t get me wrong, I love R2-D2, but Podpadstudios‘ Astromech droid is plain beautiful. Just look at the detail and all of those lights. Her name is R11:E1, a.k.a. Zoe. Her creator named her after Zoe from Caprica, which also warms my cold dead heart.
Kids don’t want to be Luke Skywalker or Ben Kenobi or even handsome scoundrel Han Solo. Kids really want to be R2-D2. R2 is the man! Well, the ‘bot! Now you can turn your entire upper body into the Astromech droid with this excellent R2-D2 hoodie.
R2-D2 has done many important things in his life. He carried the Death Star plans, befriended Luke, befriended Anakin before him (sure, whatever.) and even likes to ride in an X-Wing Fighter now and then. And now he is performing his most important task.
Remember when RAZR phones were cool? That was about 7 years ago, or even more. That didn’t stop Google’s Motorola Mobility division from trying to make the RAZR cool again, albeit not with its new moniker.
This little droid may not look like much, but he’s fulled to the brim. With booze. Or whatever other beverage you choose. This R2 unit has electronic Super Soaker parts inside and here, he is filled with blue gatorade.
R2-D2 is one of the most beloved robots ever. Chances are that if you are reading this, you already own a piece of R2 merchandise or two. Some of you have tons of R2 items. But do you have a droid that can smoke meat?
We were just saying how R2-D2 gets all the good merchandise and how C-3PO gets none of it, and along comes another case in point. Check out these awesome R2-D2 cufflinks – perfect for adding a touch of droid to your nicest dress shirts.
C-3PO is like the Rodney Dangerfield of droids. He doesn’t get much respect, but he does get some of the funniest lines. R2-D2 has merchandise of every conceivable variety, but not Goldenrod. That’s because he is prissy, complains incessantly and is easily disassembled so that Wookiees can carry him around.
I have to say that this little R2-D2 ballerina outfit looks pretty cute, and it’s easy to recognize the original droid. It was designed by Leeloo who works as a designer for J!NX. It looks like an awesome Halloween costume or something you could wear to cosplay adventures.
A while back, we featured an awesome giant LEGO R2-D2 and a motorized LEGO R2-D2, but those were both custom builds. Isn’t it about time that R2-D2, the most famous droid from the Star Wars saga, got his own official LEGO set?
Bladez Toyz, that British retailer where you can meet all of your R/C helicopter needs, recently decided that it wanted to add Star Wars themed remote control items to its Pump and Play sets. LucasArts, as always, was reluctant to give licensing rights, but after a difficult series of negotiations, Bladez secured the ability to produce these toys.
