Because the robotic apocalypse can’t come soon enough for some people, researchers at China’s Zhejiang University have programmed a swarm of small drones to navigate autonomously to avoid obstacles. In this case, those obstacles are the entirety of a bamboo forest.

I was just thinking the other day somebody should combine a donut and a drone, and apparently Boston-based Cleo Robotics was already on the case, developing the $9,800 Dronut X1 – the world’s first bi-rotor ducted drone that can operate in much tighter spaces than traditional drones.

I always thought the point of a drone was so it could fly around and do its work without having to touch the ground. But engineers from Caltech’s Center for Autonomous Systems & Technologies (CAST) have been working on an unusual drone which actually has legs.

UPS is currently testing something that takes a page out of Amazon’s playbook for the future. The shipping giant is trying out drones as delivery agents in Florida. The drones are from Workhorse and are called the HorseFly UAV Delivery Drone.

TRNDLabs makes a number of small drones, with the SKEYE Pico Drone being the smallest of the bunch, measuring just 0.87″ square, and weighing just 0.25 ounce.

Some people love drones, others hate them. It’s just the way it is. There are safety and privacy issues on one hand and on the other drones are fun to operate, and shoot awesome aerial videos.
