From Blade Runner to CSI, popular fiction often stretches the capabilities of photography in the service of plot. But technology has a way of catching up. Last year, psychologists Rob Jenkins and Christie Kerr were able to extract identifiable faces that were merely reflected in the eyes of a photographed person.

I always thought the movie Face-Off was completely implausible, but science has proven that face transplants are actually possible – assuming that the donor is no longer living. While you probably never want to go through such a horrendous trauma, you can now swap faces – digitally – using an iOS app.

The G.I.A. (Gestural Interactive Automaton) is a robotic sculpture that was created by Daniel Jay Bertner. It is mounted on the wall and it is basically a projection sphere and a webcam attached to three servo-controlled articulating arms.
