Furbies have always been a little creepy to me – perhaps it’s that I’ve seen what they look like on the inside that did it, or maybe it’s just their hypnotic eyeballs. Either way, they’re already pretty weird looking straight from the toy factory.
Let’s face it. For as cute as Furbies were supposed to be, more often than not, they’re kind of creepy. People have done some really crazy stuff with these electronic pets over the years, from slicing in two with a waterjet, to turning them into an insane musical instrument.
Furbys may be fun for kids of a certain age, but to the rest of us they are slightly terrifying. Now they’ve become even more nightmarish in the hands of Sam Battle, the hacker and musician behind the YouTube channel Look Mum No Computer.
Back in the ’90s, the Furby was the hottest toy of the Christmas season. Well, now there’s a new edition with modern tech inside. It is more lifelike with creepy new digital eyeballs for instance. But nothing can prepare you for seeing what this thing looks like while it is being cut in half by a powerful water jet.
My mom never got me a Furby when I was a kid, and now I understand why. Those things look freaky–and definitely not in a good way. I know some people think they’re the most adorable things in the world, but their huge bug eyes really up their creepiness factor for me.
