Back in 2009 we found a Game Boy costume that played Tetris. It had working buttons and had a laptop running an emulator. It turns out that anonymous cosplayer kept on working on his hack and showed off its latest version at the 2014 Ohayocon.
Back in 2009 we saw a dude who went as a playable Game Boy for Halloween. This year YouTuber MikeHandidate went as an updated version: a Game Boy Color. Perhaps realizing how awkward it would be to have the handheld’s buttons on his body, he chose to place the controls on his hands.
The Game Boy was an amazing portable gaming system back in the day. Who cares if it started off with a lack of color? We could play Mario and Zelda games anywhere. Your luggage goes with you everywhere too, so why not have some luggage that looks just like a Game Boy?
Whether you’re Game Boy or a Game Girl, you need a new beach towel. You know you do. Especially if it looks like this. Inspired by the classic Nintendo Game Boy, ThinkGeek’s Beach Boy towel is the perfect thing for geeks having fun in the sun.
We all could use a little nip of booze now and then. Life is stressful. But you want to drink stealthily. That means hiding your flask so it doesn’t look like you are drinking. This awesome Nerdtendo Gamebooze should do the trick.
We’ve seen a Game Boy pillow before, but these “GameKid” pillows by Brazilian shop Verso are soooo much cuter. They come in different colors and are even printed with different games on the back. Here’s the original dirty white model putting on his best Old Snake impression:
If you recall, a few weeks back, we mentioned that Hyperkin was working on an update to their popular retro multi-console, the RetroN. Well, today, they officially showed off the console, and it’s been renamed the RetroN 5, since it has five cartridge slots.
The Game Boy Color can only store a few megabytes of data in its memory, but these carcasses of the handheld contain nothing but a 1TB hard drive. They can probably store all of the games that have ever been released for all of Nintendo’s handhelds and still have some room left for your homework.
Nope, the picture below isn’t Photoshopped. The Game Boy below actually has four face buttons. It’s also not entirely a Game Boy anymore, because there’s a Dingoo A330 inside, hence the name Gameboo. Aside from playing Game Boy games, it can also play GBA, NES, SNES games and more.
If you love being able to emulate classic games on your phone but hate the clumsy touchscreen controls, there is yet another answer. Look to the ghost of gaming past and hack a Game Boy to use it as a controller on your Android phone.
Oh man. I have always wanted a hug a giant Game Boy Color made out of cardboard. And that geeky chick in the pic created one. MaboroshiTira made this giant non-handheld by taking a bunch of boxes, chopping them up and turning them a larger-than-life nostalgic gaming device.
Today’s handheld videogame systems all have built-in clocks, but if you want to see the time on a Game Boy the closest you can get is the Watch Boy, an official Nintendo merchandise released back in the 90s.
Everyone’s talking about the new iPad or when the new Xbox is coming out, but did you know that Texas Instruments recently released a handheld console? It’s true! It plays Pokémon games! It’s also a graphing calculator.
