While games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are a blast to play, their out-of-the-box guitars don’t have a tremendous amount of personality. Now you can get your hands on some beautifully handpainted guitar controllers that’ll have all of your friends green with envy.

Guitar Hero fans rejoice. Starting this June, you’ll be able to get your rock fix on the road with this portable Nintendo DS version of the highly-addictive music game. Guitar Hero: On Tour comes complete with an innovative button controller that plugs into the expansion port on the bottom of the DS Lite (I’m not sure if it works on the DS Phat yet).

I’m as addicted to Rock Band as the next gaming geek, but I still wish the strum bar on the game’s Fender Stratocaster felt more like a real guitar string. Now you get your hands on a mod kit which will let you swap out the plastic strum bar with an actual metal guitar string.

If you’re way too addicted to those Guitar Hero games, you’ve got a couple of new ways to keep it with you wherever you go. A few days back, I brought you that pint-sized pocket GH LCD game.

Can’t get enough Guitar Hero? Well now you can carry a miniature version of the game anywhere you go. The 7 ¾” X 3” guitar is small enough to easily carry around in your backpack, but the neck folds down so you can even fit it in your pocket.

Wii gamers rejoice! It was only a matter of time before it happened. EA has gone on record to say that the insanely popular Rock Band franchise is on its way to Nintendo’s great white console.

When I came across this Guitar Hero controller made out of LEGO blocks, I was impressed. But once I found out it was fully-functional, I was blown away. Built by LEGO fanatic David McNeely (aka Blue Star LEGOs), this is the third in his series of working Guitar Hero controllers.

This has got to be one of my favorite casemods in a while. Guitar geek Ben Lewry had an old laptop lying around and decided to see if he could cram it inside of the body of an electric guitar.

Okay, okay, enough about pac-man already, right? Wrong. Check this awesome custom made guitar by Ian Schneller over at Specimen Products. This sweet 25 1/2″ scale instrument is made of ebony, basswood, and maple with mother of pearl accents, and is finished in the happy familiar yellow lacquer of our beloved arcade character.

Rocker/ Case Modder Kneivel put together this ingenious home arcade cabinet by taking a stack of Marshall amp cases and transforming them into a Guitar Hero themed gaming system. The system is made from 3 individual cabinets which can be disassembled in case he wants to taking the show on tour.

This might look like a real guitar and amplifier, but it’s actually an MP3 player. The uRock is a tiny little guitar that stores your MP3s along with a matching mini amp that’s lets you play back your tunes out loud.

How about this for an innovative use for an old musical instrument? As part of a recycling challenge for this week’s London Design Festival, one design firm took this junked out Torre acoustic guitar and turned it into a stereo with an iPod dock.

Amidst her handmade menagerie of teddy bears, bunny rabbits and other cute critters, Delaware crafter Poisonholly created this seemingly out of place plush Guitar Hero 2 controller. The hand crafted guitar bears more than a passing resemblance to the PS2’s cherry red Gibson SG, complete with colored fret “buttons” on the neck.

Until now, Live DJs have been relegated to standing behind their turntables when they want to spin some tracks. This funky-looking controller from Vestax changes all that. Looking more like an uber-modern electric guitar than a turntable, the Vestax S-1 Premium lets DJs move around the stage just like other members of the band.

It looks like the full version of the highly-anticipated interactive music game Rock Band now has a price and release date. I was over on Amazon earlier today and came across this product listing: Listing a November 20th release date, the $199 “Rock Band Collection” for the Xbox 360 and PS3 looks like it’s a complete set that includes the game and all of the instruments.

Like to play Guitar Hero 2 on your PS2 or Xbox 360 but don’t want to lug around that full-sized guitar? This new mini guitar from XCM lets you play those rhythm games on a pint-sized version of the controller.
