The steampunk aesthetic is cool from a design point of view. I can appreciate the hard work that goes into some of the steampunk creations we have seen. I don’t think the style suits my personal tastes, as I’m more of a naked gadget sort of person.

This reworked iMac is defnitely the most over-the top Mac mods I’ve seen in a while. In addition to sporting a Mac Mini under the hood, the iMac CS has a coffee maker and a subwoofer inside it too.

Earlier this year we featured modder Jonathan Berg aka Dremel Junkie‘s Wall-E casemod. Now he’s back with a 20-inch iMac G4 with touchscreen capabilities and *gasp* a bag of hurt a Blu-Ray drive. Inspired by the simplicity of their recently released iPod Shuffle 3G, the fine folks of the Apple design team have done themselves one better – with the announcement of the new iMac Shuffle. By removing the bulky screen, DVD drive, USB, firewire and display ports, it’s the thinnest iMac ever.

No matter how beautiful (or in this case, large) a gaming console, it an almost always be improved upon in some way. In this particular case, the marriage of two classics has produced one harmonious construction that provides everything you need to get your Dreamcast on… and it’s all packaged up like an iMac.

Got an old Apple iMac lying around? Here’s a great way to put your computing dinosaur to good use. Mac modder Napes took an original bondi blue iMac, built it into a custom cocktail-format arcade cabinet, and transformed it into a full-fledged arcade gaming system.

Korean PC manufacturer Averatec has tossed their hat back into the all-in-one computer ring with this new model that bears more than a passing resemblance to Apple’s latest iMac models. The Averatec All-in-One (AIO) PC looks much like an iMac dressed in black.

Back in its day, the design of the classic iMac was pretty groundbreaking. Sure, by today’s standards, the original iMac was a little bulbous, but did it really deserve this punishment? The mutant offspring of an old G3 iMac and a VHS deck, Cory Baker’s iVHS casemod is one of the ugliest Mac designs I’ve ever seen.

The guys over at Computer Choppers (who previously gave us the gold-plated MacBook Pro and the digg casemod) have a new trick up their sleeves. Working their secret alchemy, they’ve managed to coat the matte aluminum surfaces of Apple’s latest 24-inch iMacs with shiny chrome and other metallic platings.

The guys over at Gizmodo dug up this brand new patent filing from Apple, showing off another true innovation from the design masters at the company. The patent application describes a modified Apple Cinema Display with a docking slot in the side for a portable computer (presumably a new, slimmed down MacBook).

If you haven’t yet managed to snag one of Apple’s latest aluminum and glass iMacs, there’s now a way to give your older iMac a healthy dose of metal in its otherwise plastic diet. These covers from ChroMac wrap around the outside of your white plastic iMac, giving it a dramatic new look.
