It’s been a while since I’ve seen a really cool video game inspired quilt, so I was happy when I saw this one, which looks just like the game screen from the original Donkey Kong.
Did you ever notice how many of the enemies in the Super Mario Bros. games are rotund? You’ve got Chain Chomp – round, Boo – round, Piranha Plant – round head, and of course Bob-omb – also round.
It’s a good thing I don’t have to deal with people gifting me holiday pullovers. When I’m old and doing nothing but gaming all day, I hope this Mario-inspired design by Tim Shumate is still around and available as a sweater.
Not sure how I missed this, but apparently PETA has a problem with Nintendo’s Super Mario 3D Land launch. The organization has taken aim at Mario himself, making it look like he has to kill a raccoon to wear that Tanooki suit from the game, and somehow that Nintendo is making the statement that they are pro-fur.
Any gamer worth his salt knows that Nintendo wasn’t always a video game company. Founder Fusajiro Yamauchi started out in 1889 making and selling playing cards, particularly those used in a Japanese game called hanafuda. Fast forward to the 21st century and we have these Super Mario playing cards.
Sometimes I really hate how Nintendo treats us Americans. The Japanese Club Nintendo gets all manner of cooler items compared to what we get. It’s not fair, and yes I’m whining. Why? Because I can’t get my hands on this Dot Mario Cushion.
If you’ve been following Nintendo for awhile, you have probably noticed that they’ve make some pretty bone-headed decisions lately. A lot of them. Take these three new 3DS consoles for instance. They look awesome, don’t they?
If you can’t find – or afford – the official Super Mario Bros. Chuck Taylor shoes, here’s an equally sweet alternative courtesy of Etsy seller Felix Green aka InkheartKicks. Felix painted each pixel himself using acrylic paint, so not only are they beautiful, they’re waterproof as well.
Why is it that every wedding I get invited to seems to involve long, drawn-out, hyper-religious ceremonies and readings of old poetry? Somehow I manage to miss out on all the awesome geek weddings, like this Super Mario Bros.-themed
Back in my day, you were either Atari or Intellivision. The lines were clearly drawn. You chose your allegiance and you were loyal to that brand. Then at some point it was Nintendo versus Sega and so on.
An awesome cap featuring an embroidery of the iconic question mark block from Super Mario Bros. Wear it and be weary of your gamer friends’ jokes about punching your head to make coins or power-ups come out.
After so many years of service, most companies will give you a watch. Heck, these days they may just fire you instead as thanks for your service or give you nothing. Nintendo however, does something special for it’s employees after 20 years.
Nintendo should partner with Namco Bandai and Flickr user/designer/future toy magnate Ty Lettau and make these model kits a reality. They could name it Ninpla. I only want 1% share of all your earnings in exchange for that name.
While the post office would probably question the noises coming from inside this cardboard box, I’d be pretty thrilled to receive this mechanical Mario game in the mail if someone wanted to ship me one.
