Personal ATM: Modern Piggy Bank

Personal ATM: Modern Piggy Bank
We’ve featured a lot of piggy banks and other coin storage devices over the years, but I think this one is the most high-tech yet. The Personal ATM works a lot like actual ATMs, but not only can you deposit money in it, you can also set a target date or a target amount of money so you can monitor (and agonize) how long you have to wait before you should withdraw or how much you still have to save.

Piggy Bank Gets a Modern Twist

Piggy Bank Gets a Modern Twist
This concept piggy bank is more like a combination of an ATM and a Tamagotchi. In order to keep it happy, you have to feed it your credit card. No money, and it gets sad. Designed by Wang Chao, Maggie Kuo, and Jordi Parra, the electronic piggy bank concept has an iPhone for its screen that displays the emotions of the piggy bank, while an Arduino detects and manages the money and transmits status back to a computer via Bluetooth, which in turn notifies the iPhone over WiFi.

Precious Metal Vending Machines: Preferred by Robbers 2-to-1 Over ATMs

Precious Metal Vending Machines: Preferred by Robbers 2-to-1 Over ATMs
With Japan and China already filling their vending machines with bananas and crabs, I guess they needed to come up with something different to sell instead of cans of Coke and Snickers bars. So what’s next for Asia’s vending machines?

Starbucks App Lets You Pay By Phone

Starbucks App Lets You Pay By Phone
I like the idea of paying for things using my mobile phone. I would rather see RFID land in stores so you can just walk up and the cashier will know what you have and how much you owe straight away.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rakes in the Money

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rakes in the Money
I like PC video games. I play everything I can, except  racing and driving games on the PC. For racing and driving games I head to the PS3 with my Playseat and Logitech G27 combo – it rocks.

Proverbial Wallet Gets Harder to Open as You Run Out of Green

Proverbial Wallet Gets Harder to Open as You Run Out of Green
I found out the hard way in college that you could use your debit card to get money even if you are out of cash. Most banks will let you go over what you have in the account in an effort to “help you” and gather overdraft fees at the same time.

Video Game Property Sells for $335,000: Why Aren’T We Playing This Game?

Video Game Property Sells for $335,000: Why Aren’T We Playing This Game?
If EVE Online is famous for heists and other virtual crimes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, the players of Planet Calypso, another MMORPG, have been earning loads of money through more diplomatic means. One of Planet Calypso’s asteroids, plus a number of properties within said asteroid, was recently sold for $335,000 (USD).

Kin Mobile Phone Failure Takes $670k Out of Steve Ballmer’S Pocket

Kin Mobile Phone Failure Takes $670k Out of Steve Ballmer’S Pocket
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is a character for sure. The guy is one of those CEOs that is very animated and at times says things that make you wonder what he was thinking. If ever there was a reason to see a sweaty and pissed off Ballmer, this is that day.

Metal Detector Wielding Brit Finds $1-Million in Roman Coins

Metal Detector Wielding Brit Finds $1-Million in Roman Coins
I tried my hand at metal detection when I was a kid. I quickly gave up after all I found were beer bottle tops, tin cans, and eyeglasses. I had hoped to find something awesome like pirate treasure or that Star Wars lunchbox I buried in the backyard with my Luke Skywalker action figure in it.

LEGO ATM Doesn’t Charge Any Fees for Withdrawals

LEGO ATM Doesn’t Charge Any Fees for Withdrawals
If you’re a regular Technabob reader, I think it’s clear that you can make just about anything using LEGO bricks. Take for instance, this ATM machine, made using LEGO NXT components. LEGO-master Ronald McCrae’s incredible Brick Bank ATM can accept an ATM card and store account balances in its internal customer database.

Itazura Kitty Coin Bank: Like Ceiling Cat, but in a Cardboard Box

Itazura Kitty Coin Bank: Like Ceiling Cat, but in a Cardboard Box
Whether they’re playing keyboards, eating spaghetti and cheeseburgers, or just plain acting surprised, the Internet has more cats than it has porn. Take for instance, this so-cute-you-wanna-puke gadget from Japan, which also happens to feature a surprise cat.

If Pandas Ran the U.S. Banking System We Wouldn’T be in the Mess We’Re in Today

If Pandas Ran the U.S. Banking System We Wouldn’T be in the Mess We’Re in Today
New from Japan – home of things too cute and strange to ever make it to American soil, comes TakaraTomy’s latest dose of sugary electronic goodness, the Panda Bank. I’m not sure what these panda bears are doing with all of my Yen coins, but they appear to be quite happy, and they like to do all sorts of fun tricks on the LCD screen when fed money.

Choken Bako Dog Bank Will Eat Anything That’S Put on Its Bowl

Choken Bako Dog Bank Will Eat Anything That’S Put on Its Bowl
The Choken-Bako dog bank features a hyperactive dog for a teller. Just place your money on its bowl and it will “eat” it. Actually there’s a slot on the bowl that’s connected to the coin box; the dog’s mouth just pushes the money into the slot.

Fill ‘Er Up Gas Gauge Piggy Bank Should Never be on “E”

Fill ‘Er Up Gas Gauge Piggy Bank Should Never be on “E”
Another fun creation from the guys over at Fred & Friends, this new piggy bank has a built-in gauge to tell you how close to full it is. The Fill ‘Er Up savings bank looks just like the gas gauge on a car, but instead of keeping track of fuel, it keeps track of coins.
