A bunch of music fans at an outdoor concert for the group Mumford & Sons were treated to quite a sight earlier this week. The concert was being held at an outdoor amphitheater in Pelham, Alabama – about 20 miles south of Birmingham.
In the predawn hours of August 28, a NASA video network consisting of five cameras located in the southeast United States recorded a massive fireball. The fireball was a meteor that entered the atmosphere of Earth over the Georgia/Tennessee border at 3:27 AM, moving at a speed of 56,000 mph.
Two North California sisters, inspired by a documentary, decided to make a Mars Rover by themselves with help from their dad Robert Beatty. Now, 13-year-old Camille Beatty’s and 11-year-old Genevieve’s remote-controlled replica of the Mars Spirit rover is being exhibited at the New York Hall of Science.

The Human Interfaces Group of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory used both devices to make simulations of space environments.

Let’s be honest, everything is more difficult in space than here on Earth. It’s hard enough just to get into space and bring all of the things humans need to survive. It’s an amazing technological feat for astronauts to live and work on the International Space Station in and of itself.

On Earth, being able to view a solar eclipse is a very rare occurrence. In space, it’s not so rare to witness this event. Recently, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory caught a glimpse of two incredible eclipses in only a seven hour period.
