GeekUnique’s formula for making geeky iPhone/iPod Touch docks is simple: if it’s a classic gaming peripheral, it’s a dock. Hence the shop’s N64 controller dock, Atari cartridge dock and PlayStation controller dock. However, that formula may have failed with this one:

Video games have really come a long way, especially when it comes to marketing. For those too young to remember, CollegeHumor made a totally radical fake commercial for Grand Theft Auto on the NES. As ridiculous as the fake GTA was, the commercial freaked me out.

I certainly don’t remember my old Nintendo controller making crazy sounds, but I actually rather like the idea of building synthesizers into old video game controllers. Gadget hacker Michael Rucci builds his audio mods into old electronic toys and other salvaged parts, but my personal faves are his Nintendo controller synths.

I don’t know a lot of kids, but I’m betting they’d prefer to play on the iPhone, Nintendo DS or PSP rather than the SNES or NES. If they even know what those two are. But I think there’s still a lot of us 80s kids that’ll find Chinavision’s all-in-one gadget a hoot.

The nutty soapsters at Digitalsoaps are up to their tricks again, casting the form of all sorts of video game goodies into bath soaps. The latest – and possibly greatest addition to their game soaps collection – the Duck Hunt soap gun.

While a lot of games probably started out with just a sketch of a landscape or of the main character, I doubt there’s many games out there where its cover art inspired the actual game. But that’s exactly what the members of TIGSource did, turning Famicase art into actual games.

Well here’s a different way to play Super Mario Bros 2… with your eyeballs. The guys at Waterloo Labs rigged up an eye-tracking contraption using electrodes placed around each eye, then mapped through a custom circuit and a Single-Board RIO system to convert eye movements into joystick movements on the NES.

We’ve featured the realistic gaming controller soaps from DigitalSoaps before, but this bundle they’re offering really caught my eye.

The latest in handheld emulators, the Letcool N350JP tries to one-up other portables by adding on something they don’t offer – a pair of external controllers for two-player fun. The compact system comes with emulators for the Super Nintendo, NES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance, but if it’s anything like the other portable emulators out there, you can bet there will be more emulators, and probably a Linux build for it at some point.

Looks like Nintendo is readying the release of sets of playing cards that feature all of our favorite characters on their faces. You’ll be able to choose from three sets, one with cartoony illustrations, another with 3D CGI versions, and the last with pixelated 8-bit characters – my personal favorite.

On the surface, this TRON-inspired NES mod doesn’t look like much. But when the lights go down, it’s like a Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner invited your console to a party. Once fully charged with black light, Thretris‘ modded NES really comes to life, glowing with a brightness that could only be bested if it were electroluminescent.
