Remember that retro looking Space Invaders clock we told you about last year? It was pretty cool by itself, but now it has become even more functional. Designer Grant Gibson turned his into an awesome Gmail notifier.

…or false alarms for that matter. That’s because Matt Richardson’s project only involves a sensor that detects when his mailbox is opened, whether or not important mail or any mail is put inside. But it’s still a neat hack, and will be quite useful if you frequently forget to check for snail mail.

If you work around people that like to listen to music on headphones while they work or get tons of text messages you already know how annoying that can be. If they are wearing headphones, they never hear their phone ring or texts come in, and you get to be distracted while they remain oblivious.
