I was working on a story about something completely different today when I came across this intriguing digital image technology they’ve been working on for a while over at Microsoft Research. The team sums up their not-too-lofty goal for their HD View technology as follows: “…to create the best picture given (a) a source with high resolution, arbitrary dynamic range, any field of view & color gamut; (b) the user’s interaction; and (c) the display being used.”

This is a frame that’s actually a real frame but it looks like a digital frame. Sort of. I’m confused! The frame is made by Irina Blok. It’s a wooden frame with a hand silkscreened design, made to look like an Apple doc screen.

Ovo is an egg-shaped desk gadget that reveals a little digital photo frame, so you can have a mini-slideshow in a modicum of space! They come in white, blue, green, or pink, and come packaged in a cute stainless steel can.

The Ply concept phone has so many features stacked into its wooden shell that I had to read about it twice to fully grasp its awesomeness. Each layer holds a gadget with a distinct function, including a phone, game controller, photo printer, and projector (among other things).

These amazing video game images by digital artist RETROnoob take familiar bitmapped sprite characters and marry them to real world photographs. Through creative and generous application of digital blur tools, each of the images does a brilliant job blending 2-D and 3-D worlds into one.

No, these striking images weren’t made using Photoshop trickery. They were actually taken using a unique process which involves placing photographic paper onto an object, placing them both on a high-voltage plate, then cranking up the juice.

This odd-looking photo printer from HP has a style that you’ll either love or hate. Reminiscent in some ways of the original egg-shaped iMac models from the late 1990s, the Photosmart A826 printer looks a bit like something out of an old science fiction movie.
