The holiday shopping season is just around the corner, and rumors are starting to emerge that the video game console market is about to get a lot more competitive. The guys over at Opposable Thumbs are reporting that a reliable source has given them details on some significant pricing changes coming down the line for Sony’s PlayStation 3 consoles.

Electronic Arts has started to circulate a list of 30 tracks that are currently on the playlist for their upcoming multiplayer music game Rock Band. The list includes a number of classic rock tracks, but also offers up some great alternative and more edgy tunes.

Regardless of whether or not the Sony PlayStation 2 is “last-generation,” there’s still plenty of interest out there in the console, thanks to its huge game library and bargain-basement pricing. To reinforce that the PS2 isn’t going anywhere, Sony has just announced this great new bundle.

At this week’s Leipzig Gaming Conference, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) revealed an add-on for the PlayStation 3 gaming console which will give it full television and digital video recording capabilities. The device and software bundle, called PlayTV will provide high-definition reception of television signals and scheduled recording of shows.

It’s been a long time coming, but we finally know when the PlayStation EYE camera for the PS3 is going to hit shelves. Originally thought to be coming out this Summer, it now looks like a Fall 2007 release.

You’ve got to hand it to these junkmeisters for their creativity. Check out these slightly familiar video game consoles from a schlock shop down in Mexico. I’m not sure whether I like the X-Game 360 or the PowerStation 2 better, but these cheap packaging copies are clearly designed to fool some unsuspecting buyer into thinking they’re getting a great deal on a real console.

I can’t figure out why you’d want to do this, but there must be somebody out there who wants a tiny screen strapped onto the top of their Playstation 3. Nevover Electronics’ flip screen for the PS3 is designed to mount securely on the top of the console, and provides a 7-inch TFT LCD panel for viewing games and videos.

For those of us with PlayStation 3 consoles, I’m happy to say that what has all the makings of a potentially good game will be coming out very soon. Yep, Ninja Theory’s much anticipated hack-and-slash game Heavenly Sword is headed to store shelves on September 12th, 2007.

If you’re a fan of the classic rhythm game Parappa the Rapper, you’re in for a treat. Sony today released free digital MP3 downloads of the game’s catchy soundtrack. Some of my favorites include “Cheap Cheap the Cooking Chicken’s Rap” and “Instructor Mooselini’s Rap” So what are you waiting for?

It looks like the full version of the highly-anticipated interactive music game Rock Band now has a price and release date. I was over on Amazon earlier today and came across this product listing: Listing a November 20th release date, the $199 “Rock Band Collection” for the Xbox 360 and PS3 looks like it’s a complete set that includes the game and all of the instruments.

Well after tons of speculation and back and forth on the topic, Sony has finally relented and says that the $100 price drop on the 60GB PlayStation 3 is only to clear out the remaining inventory on the original model.

Like to play Guitar Hero 2 on your PS2 or Xbox 360 but don’t want to lug around that full-sized guitar? This new mini guitar from XCM lets you play those rhythm games on a pint-sized version of the controller.

I was wandering through the cultural wasteland known as YouTube tonight when I came across this masterpiece… Apparently, this guy was participating in a contest to win a trip in some sort of Parappa the Rapper contest to celebrate of the launch of the new game for the PSP.

[UPDATE 7/9/2007: The rumors were true. Sony has cut the price on the PS3/60GB to $499 effective immediately. They also announced the August release of an 80GB model for $599, including a copy of Motorstorm] MaxConsole is reporting the receipt of an anonymous e-mail from a supposed Circuit City employee claiming that Sony’s PlayStation 3 will soon be selling for $100 less than launch price.

I’m really hoping this forum post over on Blu-ray.com is fake… According to the poster of the thread, his friend was wondering why his shiny new Playstation 3 had stopped working, when he discovered the unthinkable.

Much of the industry is already saying that Blu-ray is winning the high-def format wars, so it’s actually surprising to hear that the Blu-ray Disc Association is hedging their bets even more by giving away free discs with the purchase of their players.
