The old PS3 models occasionally had a problem with overheating, so when modder and PS3HAX administrator Pirate decided to make his second PS3 laptop mod, he decided to install a liquid-cooling system to ensure that it won’t be fried.

During tonight’s E3 press conference, Sony revealed more details of its forthcoming portable, formerly known as the Sony NGP (Next Generation Portable). Kaz Hirai brought out the latest PlayStation Portable, which is now officially named PlayStationVita or PS Vita (pronounced “vee-tah”, not “vy-tah”).

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has had a few rough weeks. Aside from the much publicized announcement by hacker group Anonymous about an impending take-down of the company’s sites because of the action they took against another hacker, Geohot, they recently had to hurdle another attack on their system where the perpetrator’s walked away with over 12,700 credit card numbers and information from 24.6 million user accounts.

On March 6, I mentioned that the PS3 had moved 41.6 million units all around the world (which was later corrected to 47.9 million by Sony). Sony has now come forward and announced that it has hit a record 50 million PS3 game consoles sold all around the world.

I love when an item I discover combines two of my favorite things, and this PS2/PS3 controller made out of chocolate satisfies those requirements perfectly. Michelle’s This and That is making these chocolate bars in the shape of a Dual-Shock controller, in either milk or dark chocolate.

If you’re looking to fill out your dollhouse with geeky accoutrements, you might want to grab some of these Japanese toys, which are basically really tiny versions of the original Sony PlayStation line.

A while back, I came across some fun business card holders that looked like classic gaming systems. But for some reason, they didn’t include the original PlayStation in the mix. Fans of the retro PlayStation will be happy to know that they too can hand out their business cards out of a tiny version of their favorite console.

We’ve featured some cool handmade cases by rabbitrampage before, but these are definitely my favorites so far. Each handmade felt case is a tiny little replica of a famous gaming console, precisely stitched, and filled with a little bit of padding to protect your delicate iPhone, iPod Touch or other gadget of similar size.

Proving that some companies will accept money to slap their logo on anything, Sony has “officially licensed” the manufacture of a line of PlayStation-themed microfiber towels. Huh, wha?

I haven’t gotten a chance to load up LittleBigPlanet 2 onto my PS3 yet, but I played the hell out of the original, and heard nothing but great things about the sequel. Fans of these great games will be tickled to watch this creative short video clip by the guys over at Escapist Magazine, which brings the LBP world to life:

Video game-themed shoes are nothing new, which is why I’m disappointed with these apparently official Nike Air Force 1 Low PlayStation sneakers.

Rovio’s wildly successful iOS game has branched out to the Android Marketplace and Ovi Store, but the angry birds of Angry Birds are still looking for more of their green porcine archenemies. Starting this week, the game will also be playable on PCs via Intel’s AppUp center.

Oh Sony. Sometimes you act like Brando. Your first generation PS3s are much better than the latter ones in terms of features. I think aside from the latest iPod Nano, the PS3 is the only major electronic product I know of that devolved as the years progressed.

PC gamers, are you looking for a better way to control your PlayStation 3 first-person shooters? The FragFX Piranha might be the ticket. The unusual controller comes with two components – a left-hand control pod which provides directional movements, and a right-hand mouse for accurate aiming and firing.
