At this week’s Leipzig Gaming Conference, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) revealed an add-on for the PlayStation 3 gaming console which will give it full television and digital video recording capabilities. The device and software bundle, called PlayTV will provide high-definition reception of television signals and scheduled recording of shows.

It’s been a long time coming, but we finally know when the PlayStation EYE camera for the PS3 is going to hit shelves. Originally thought to be coming out this Summer, it now looks like a Fall 2007 release.

I can’t figure out why you’d want to do this, but there must be somebody out there who wants a tiny screen strapped onto the top of their Playstation 3. Nevover Electronics’ flip screen for the PS3 is designed to mount securely on the top of the console, and provides a 7-inch TFT LCD panel for viewing games and videos.

For those of us with PlayStation 3 consoles, I’m happy to say that what has all the makings of a potentially good game will be coming out very soon. Yep, Ninja Theory’s much anticipated hack-and-slash game Heavenly Sword is headed to store shelves on September 12th, 2007.

It looks like the full version of the highly-anticipated interactive music game Rock Band now has a price and release date. I was over on Amazon earlier today and came across this product listing: Listing a November 20th release date, the $199 “Rock Band Collection” for the Xbox 360 and PS3 looks like it’s a complete set that includes the game and all of the instruments.

Well after tons of speculation and back and forth on the topic, Sony has finally relented and says that the $100 price drop on the 60GB PlayStation 3 is only to clear out the remaining inventory on the original model.

[UPDATE 7/9/2007: The rumors were true. Sony has cut the price on the PS3/60GB to $499 effective immediately. They also announced the August release of an 80GB model for $599, including a copy of Motorstorm] MaxConsole is reporting the receipt of an anonymous e-mail from a supposed Circuit City employee claiming that Sony’s PlayStation 3 will soon be selling for $100 less than launch price.

I’m really hoping this forum post over on Blu-ray.com is fake… According to the poster of the thread, his friend was wondering why his shiny new Playstation 3 had stopped working, when he discovered the unthinkable.

Much of the industry is already saying that Blu-ray is winning the high-def format wars, so it’s actually surprising to hear that the Blu-ray Disc Association is hedging their bets even more by giving away free discs with the purchase of their players.

Strike another blow against Sony’s PlayStation 3 console. Already faced with a serious lack of available titles, it looks the console has lost another game in its arsenal with the revelation that the latest game in the popular Katamari Damacy series is now likely to be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Whee. Sony is rolling out yet another firmware upgrade for the PlayStation 3 console. The impending version 1.80 upgrade adds a couple of new features, but the most significant one purportedly adds upscaling of DVD, Playstation and PlayStation 2 games to as much as 1080p resolution.

Thanks to some images that were floating around on the FCC website, rumors have floating around for a while that Sony was working on an 80GB version of the PlayStation 3. Well, it turns out the 80GB model is real.

Japanese game accessory maker Hori has revealed their upcoming racing controller for the PlayStation 3. The Zero Tech 3 controller features a trigger-grip design with a sideways mounted analog steering control. The unique design allows players to use their left hand to control the accelerator and brake triggers, while the right hand controls steering.

Soon, the PlayStation 3 will get its own version of the popular Eye Toy gadget. The new camera won’t win any beauty pageants, thanks to its odd oversized microphone and bulbous head. The giant microphone apparently does have a purpose, however, with multiple elements to help filter out unwanted background noise.

There’s been a bit of buzz lately that Sony is working on new PS3’s with larger hard drives. Heck, a photo even surfaced on Kotaku today of a box from one of the supposed new 80GB models.

Console modder extraordinaire Ben Heck is at it again. This time, he’s carefully taken the guts of the Playstation 3’s SIXAXIS controller and sandwiched them inside of an Xbox 360’s wireless controller. There’s something that’s oh-so-wrong but oh-so-right about the strange bedfellows coming together to form a single mutant controller.
