It seems that the Snakes of MGS: Peace Walker are taking a cue from their Assassin predecessors. Top video game producers Hideo Kojima and Patrice Desilets contracted hay fever while making this trailer for the upcoming PSP game, so you better watch this until the very end.

If there’s one thing that keeps Snake’s philosophical super spy saga fresh, it’s the gadgets. The upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP is no different. Kotakuite Crimsondramon shared a link to a recently posted gameplay video that shows a bunch of weird yet practical gadgets that will aid Snake (and the other Snakes) in his latest adventure.

I’m not sure what it is about iPhone cases designed to look like other gadgets, but I always find them amusing. The mobile device subject to iPhonification this time – the Sony PSP. Created by textile artist RabbitRampage, this handmade felt case ($30 USD) looks just like a PSP – if it were made out of felt and stitches.

Nope, this portable gaming system is most definitely not a PSP Go. What you’re looking at here is a cheap Chinese handheld known as the PXP-2000. While the PXP-2000 won’t play any of your PSP games, it will play classic games from the NES, Famicom, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Super Famicom/SNES, and SEGA Megadrive/Genesis consoles.

RPGs are traditionally long and epic in scale for lots of good reasons, but a lot of RPGs have elements that add unnecessary length to the gameplay, like unskippable walls of text, unnecessarily slow-ass modes of transport and/or huge maps, quests with insane requirements, and of course the grinding.

If the only design on your consoles are dust and fingerprints, you might want to check out Etsy shop NoveltyGallery and their vinyl skins for various game systems. Unfortunately there are no video game-themed skins; most of them are abstract, floral, or child-friendly designs.

You know what’s awesome about portable game systems? Portability, of course! And what’s awesome about arcade cabinets? Everything. So it’s clear that arcade cabinets are, in fact, better than portables… which means it’s totally okay to hack your portables into your arcade cabinets.

Zombie Desert has everything you (and by you, I mean I) want in a game: zombies, violence, deserts, and the 1950s. Oh, wait, is that a tiny shotgun? I’ve died and gone to homebrew heaven. The design is simple, dark, pixelated, maybe even perfect for a run-and-gun zombie game.

Joystiq asked Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, if Sony would ever bring Trophies – the equivalent of Xbox 360’s Achievements – to the PSP. Upon hearing the question, Lempel fell on his knees and screamed, “Daaaamn youuu Salazaaaaaar!”

The real beauty of portable game systems is that they’re, well, portable. They fit comfortably into a pocket so that you can haul ’em around and play whenever you have a spare moment. Now, the PSP may look slick in all its iterations, but it’s never been the most pocket-friendly apparatus.

Poor PSP-3000. Within weeks it was served a double whammy. After a fairly long period of being homebrew-proof, it was finally hacked. And then shortly afterwards it became (sorta) obsolete. Give your PSP some retail therapy and get one of these custom faceplates from console makeover masters XCM.

Check out these photos of the new Sony PSP Go portable videogame console / media player that just hit the Interweb. The PSP Go is a new handheld that lightens the load of the older PSP models by making games available via wireless download or on Memory Stick Micro cards.

To the people who keep on saying that the PSP’s biggest problem is that it doesn’t have a 2nd analog stick, screw you. This is the PSP’s biggest problem in action: copies of Harmonix’ Rock Band Unplugged for the Playstation Portable are already up in torrent sites, nearly 3 weeks before the June 9 release date.

And so it has come to pass: a group of developers calling themselves Team Typhoon recently achieved a breakthrough in hacking the PSP-3000 via member Davee’s ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler. As proof, a Team Typhoon member posted a video of ChickHEN at work on YouTube, adding, “This proves that the code survives a reboot and the system software and MAC address can be changed.”

Anyone who owns an internet-capable device knows that browsing without a keyboard or a good keyboard interface is a pain in the ass. As a PSP and PS3 owner, I can say that that is the case with both systems, not to mention the pathetic, slow-ass connection on the PSP.

Does this handheld gaming system look familiar at all? When I first saw it, I had to do a double-take too. While the PXP-900 steals more thant a few of it’s design cues from the Sony PSP, don’t expect it to play the latest PSP games – it only plays retro game ROMs.
