I’ve always thought of C-3PO and R2-D2 as a couple of endearing, but not exactly attractive little droids. These ladies are definitely not the droids I was looking for – but now I can’t help but stare.
Some Star Wars fans really go all-out, and this custom-designed R2-D2 engagement ring is no exception. This is no cheap Cracker Jack box trinket – oh, remember when the prizes weren’t all made out of paper?
Don’t get me wrong, I love R2-D2, but Podpadstudios‘ Astromech droid is plain beautiful. Just look at the detail and all of those lights. Her name is R11:E1, a.k.a. Zoe. Her creator named her after Zoe from Caprica, which also warms my cold dead heart.
Technabob readers love LEGO and they also love Star Wars. So whenever the two worlds intersect, it’s geeky bliss. I’m especially impressed with these handmade LEGO Star Wars mosaics by UK artist Douglas Bagnall.
From the day that Star Wars came out, I always thought R2-D2 looked like a trashcan on wheels. So an R2-D2 trashcan makes sense as a mechandising tie-in. On the other hand, I never really pictured R2 as an orb.
Kids don’t want to be Luke Skywalker or Ben Kenobi or even handsome scoundrel Han Solo. Kids really want to be R2-D2. R2 is the man! Well, the ‘bot! Now you can turn your entire upper body into the Astromech droid with this excellent R2-D2 hoodie.
If you love clothes and happen to a fan of geeky stuff like Star Wars, then I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard of Black Milk Clothing by now. They’re behind the uber-sexy TARDIS mini dress and leggings and a series of awesome geeky swimsuits featuring C-3PO, Pac-Man, and R2-D2.
In this world of Star Wars inspired gadgets, sometimes the same device gets rehashed. Yes, we’ve seen an R2-D2 alarm clock before, but that model simply projected the time on the ceiling. This new one actually has movements and sounds like the little droid when it wakes you.
A recent import from Japan, this R2-D2 Action Alarm clock is a precisely-detailed model of R2 (other than the part where there’s an LCD clock hiding out in his chest.)
Sometimes you can’t just pick one favorite character from the Star Wars movies. Who says you have to? At least that’s the idea that one baker had when creating what could be the most awesome Star Wars cake ever.
R2-D2 has done many important things in his life. He carried the Death Star plans, befriended Luke, befriended Anakin before him (sure, whatever.) and even likes to ride in an X-Wing Fighter now and then. And now he is performing his most important task.
Summer is nearly over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still hit the pool or swim in the ocean for the next few months. These Star Wars inflatable pool toys are inspiration enough for me to hop back in the waters, even with Fall approaching.
This little droid may not look like much, but he’s fulled to the brim. With booze. Or whatever other beverage you choose. This R2 unit has electronic Super Soaker parts inside and here, he is filled with blue gatorade.
Some people like graffiti, some people hate it. Any artform that puts droids on the streets is fine by me. No matter how you feel about graffiti, you have to love this secret door that is hidden within a graffiti R2-D2.
