You might think its hot where you are. However, you don’t know hot until you visit Texas in the summer. We are going on 40 consecutive days of temperatures in the 104-107°F range in many areas, and on top of the heat, we are having our annual drought and it is one of the worst ever.

Think you’ll be seeing a lot of disposable appliances and tech in the future? Loughborough University student Jake Tyler thinks so. He designed this concept, and it was then picked up by European vacuum maker Vax.

Surfing is one of those things that I have never really gotten a firm handle on. Sure, I can stand on the board for a few seconds minutes before I slip or wipe out. I used to sit by the shore and just watch the other surfers ride the waves and do their thing in the water.

Instructables member Michael Chen’s friend gave him a broken laptop. Chen decided to treat the situation as a glass half-full and converted the distressed laptop into a desktop. It may sound counterintuitive, but then again he practically made something out of nothing and extended the lifespan of the computer.

Here’s a fun project to do if you have a couple of unused keyboards lying around – a picture Rubik’s Cube with function and number keys on it instead of colors. Making one’s not as easy as Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V though.

Laptops sacrifice a lot for their portability – they’re nowhere near as upgradable as most desktop computers, and they’re not that easy to tinker with as well. But a group of students from Stanford University and Aalto University in Finland have shown that it’s possible to make a laptop with a very modular form, making its parts easy to recycle, service and replace.

Artist iri5’s “Ghost in the Machine” is a series of portraits that connect music with visual art by making use of old cassette tapes as medium. When I first saw Neatorama‘s post about the project I thought it was just a cheap trick.

Nixon is coming out with yet another awesome watch. The Rotolog RePly watch is inlaid with reclaimed skateboard parts. This is recycling at it’s best. Thin strips of reclaimed skate decks are artfully layered to create a unique and colorful watch.
