One thing that you can say about the UK’s Red Bull Soapbox Race is that it always inspires a lot of creative hand-made racing machines. This LEGO Batmobile outdoes the rest. This is the racer of the awesomely named Team You Gotham Be Kidding Me.
Just over a year ago on October 14, 2012, daredevil Felix Baumgartner made history with his daring jump from 128,000 feet – setting a record for the world’s highest skydive. Baumgartner exceeded speeds of 825 mph and broke the sound barrier without the use of an aircraft.
I’m sure everyone is familiar with skydiving, but I’m not sure everyone is familiar with a wingsuit. If you have seen the movie Transformers 3, you might remember the soldiers in the flick jumping out of an airplane wearing black suits that allow them to glide rather than simply float to the ground.
Update 10/14/2012: Now that the Red Bull Stratos is complete, you can view an archived copy of the jump below…
If you’re paying attention to daredevil Felix Baumgartner and his desire to jump out of a pressurized capsule 23 miles above the surface, you may have noticed that he didn’t make the didn’t make the jump earlier this week.
Today is the big day for daredevil Felix Baumgartner and the Red Bull Stratos team. Assuming the weather holds out, Baumgartner will spend two hours climbing to over 120,000 feet inside his pressurized capsule attached to the world’s largest helium filled balloon.
As we already know, daredevil Felix Baumgartner plans to hop in a pressurized capsule and using a gigantic helium balloon, ascend to 23 miles above the surface of the Earth. On October 8th, Baumgartner hopes to set a world record for the highest altitude skydive ever performed.
I usually associate the Red Bull name with large amounts of caffeine, and maybe the occasional cool extreme sports event, but this is the first time the Red Bull name is connected with the DIY/Maker movement – other than the mass-quantities of the sugary concoction geeks down on a regular basis, and the ridiculous “flying” machines which find their way to the Red Bull Flugtag.
How’s this for truth in advertising…
This crazy thing could actually be the biggest fly you’ll see this year. Turns out this mammoth-sized bug was created by the guys over at Plunge Productions for a recent show on UK channel T4 called Red Bull Rivals.
Not to be outdone by Mario and his Power Up Energy Drink, it looks like the plumber’s simian adversary just had to have his own peppy beverage.
Recently sighted on the shelves over at New York’s Nintendo World Store, the Red Bull-esque energy drink comes in a skinny red can featuring the likeness of the big ape himself, DK necktie and all.
Do you often find yourself falling asleep just before you can get to that next Super Mario Galaxy level? Need a boost? Why not give yourself a kick in the pants, Mario style, with this Super Mario Power Up!
