Here’s some news that Sonic fans will love. After many disappointing and flawed games, Sega appears to be going back to the character’s roots. This Sonic Generations footage looks not only playable, but fun.
Guys, admit it. At some point in your life, you’ve tried to carefully aim or control your stream when you’re taking a leak. There are even those little target urinal cakes in some bathrooms to encourage accurate aim.
I’ve run across plenty of those little plug-and-play retro gaming systems before, but this one wins the prize for being the smallest one I’ve seen yet. This pint-sized system is a fully self-contained SEGA Genesis emulator, capable of playing several Sonic the Hedgehog games.
As if the inclusion of zombies in the upcoming PS3 game Yakuza of the End wasn’t weird enough, check out this wacky product tie-in. This bright yellow concoction is Yakuza of the End liquor, and it’s also the only time that I can remember seeing a SEGA name on a bottle of booze.
Glasses-free 3D is the “next-big thing” in display technology. Of course, nobody has really created the perfect glasses-free display yet, but the quality had improved by leaps and bounds in even the last year. Now, SEGA has announced they’ll be releasing an arcade game with a 52-inch 3D glasses-free display.
Back when I had a SEGA Dreamcast, one of my absolute favorite titles was Jet Set Radio (aka Jet Grind Radio here in the States). Not only did the game feature ground-breaking, beautiful cell-shaded animations and an awesome soundtrack, it was insanely addictive.
This compact game console is a real freak of nature. Not only is it shaped like Sonic the Hedgehog’s spiky blue head, it plays some classic 16-bit SEGA Genesis games and comes with Wii-like motion controllers.
We’ve featured a variety of SEGA Dreamcast portable mods over the years, and up until now, I thought this one from China was the best. But you’ve got to hand it to modder Techknott. His portable is super slick, and I think it’s my new favorite Dreamcast portable.
Here’s something fun for all you retro gamers out there. Classic SEGA mascot Sonic the Hedgehog and his spiny rival Knuckles now have another way to get around instead of just getting into a ball and spinning frantically.
A picture really does speak a thousand words here. Modder Evil Nod managed to somehow cram a fully-functional Nintendo 64 system inside the body of an old SEGA Game Gear portable. Why? Why the heck not, I say.
The latest in handheld emulators, the Letcool N350JP tries to one-up other portables by adding on something they don’t offer – a pair of external controllers for two-player fun.
The compact system comes with emulators for the Super Nintendo, NES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance, but if it’s anything like the other portable emulators out there, you can bet there will be more emulators, and probably a Linux build for it at some point.
The guys over at Tiny Cartridge stumbled onto this awesome Dreamcast boombox casemod by XCKDIY.
The design seamlessly integrates the Dreamcast’s CD-Rom drive into the portable’s old DVD tray, and wired the console to the front-facing LCD screen.
No, this strange looking contraption isn’t one of those Clooney’s sex chairs from Burn After Reading. It’s actually an obscure video game controller for the old 16-bit Sega Genesis or Megadrive. And thanks to the miracle of eBay, it can now be yours.
Imagine if you could find a use for all those classic games that you’ve got laying about your garage or basement? Sure, from time to time, I get out my NES or SNES and play a few classic games, like Contra or Shadow of the Ninja.
