We’ve talked about Flash Rods flash drives that look like toy cars several times over the years. My favorite continues to be the Back to the Future DeLorean. The company has offered several other versions of its vehicular flash drives over the years and they’ve all had USB storage of one sort or another stuffed inside.

Kingston just unveiled a technological marvel at CES 2013: a 1TB USB 3.0 flash drive. A terabyte on a stick. If you can make something as insane as that, then you deserve to name it whatever the hell you like, which is what exactly Kingston did.

Compared to the rather sloth-like USB 2.0 port, the current USB 3.0 ports found on some computers and notebooks on the market today are insanely fast. The original USB 3.0 port support data transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps.

Sure, Thunderbolt is fast, but there aren’t many devices that you can buy that work with it, leaving Apple fanboys crying in their closets. LaCie has released a new Thunderbolt-compatible portable drive, that uses a speedy solid-state drive for that extra special cherry on top.

While LaCie isn’t new to the rugged hard drive market segment, they’re about to release a miniaturized version of their popular Neil Poulton designed hard drives, which are shock, drop and rain-resistant.

While I admire LaCie’s efforts in designing good-looking hard drives, their new mobile Porsche drives look even better than most.  The latest hard drives include the LaCie Porsche Design Mobile P’9220 and Desktop P’9230 Hard Drives.

Card readers can be a pain to lug around. I’ve had my share die on me when I needed them, which is when I switched to a SanDisk card reader that never leaves my desktop. Still, this new one from Lexar looks pretty nifty since it looks like the card reader can slide out of the house and back away when it’s not in use.

Here’s a fairly future-proof hub for USB-gadget hoarders. Chinavision’s Warp Speed hub has 12 ports, 6 of them USB 3.0 compatible. Unless you’re really an early adopter, I think that’s more than enough.

Brando has unveiled a new SATA docking station for HDDs. The company is rather known for this sort of gadget that allows the user to dock 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA HDDs and access them via USB like you would a memory card in a memory card reader.

I have a bunch of old HDDs in my desk that have data on them I don’t want to trash and don’t want on my current computer. If I want to get the data from those drives, as it is I need an external enclosure or to open my computer up and install the drive.

According to AppleInsider, Apple has contacted retailers about impending shortages of the Apple iMac, suggesting that a new model may be forthcoming. This isn’t exactly news, because Apple’s desktop line really is due for an internal upgrade.

Have any spare 2.5″ SATA drives? Don’t throw them away just yet: Century is selling hard drive/solid state drive enclosures which provide USB 3.0 compatibility.
